systems.

3.5 Use effective classroom

communication

Being more than just a PEX

student to other staff

Become involved in out-ofclass activities.

7.4 Engage with professional

teaching networks and broader
communities

Goal 1
I will prepare summative assessment for the unit to be used in end of semester reporting.
Action plan

1. Read through previous units on The Founding of Rome and document what students have been required
to achieve in the past. Refer to the Australian Curriculum outcomes and work out which have been
achieved in the past and what others I may need to incorporate.
2. After working out how many lessons will be in this unit, design a scope and sequence for the unit which
incorporates the ideas the need to be taught, but in a logical progression.
3. Design 2-3 pieces of assessment where students can demonstrate their competence with the units ideas
and outcomes, as well as literacy and numeracy outcomes students need to achieve (check what these are
with mentor teacher prior to writing the unit plan).
Goal 2
I will have an organised teaching and learning sequence for each unit before I begin my professional experience. For
each unit (Integrated Unit, Maths, English, HPE):
Action plan
1. Identify what outcomes and ideas that need to be addressed and how much time is available for the
whole unit.
2. Create a scope and sequence for all of the ideas and outcomes, which fits to available time frame.
3. Decide how the unit will be assessed at the end of the unit and how this can fit into the scope and
sequence.
Goal 3
I will be more consistent and persistent in my behaviour management.
Action plan
1. Write a document which clearly defines each stage of the classrooms behaviour management place,
including what happens to the student and what follow-up needs to be done.
2. At the beginning of the professional experience I will re-assert the behaviour expectations of the students,
referencing their student agreement and the expectations of the other teachers. Also refer to the signals
which indicate I need their attention, and ensure these mirror my mentor teachers signals.
3. This will be evident in the time it takes for students to follow my behavioural directions. If I and/or my
mentor teacher feel that this time is too long after day 3 then this action plan will be revisited.
Goal 4
I will be more of a colleague than a professional experience teacher.
Action plan
1. Learn the names of other teachers and say Hello . when I first see them during the day.
2. Volunteer to assist with the Winter Festival in June and the Summer Festival at the end of the year (these
are held in lieu of fetes).
3. Go to the teachers afterschool fitness and social club meetings.

Standard descriptor/s

6.1 Identify and plan

professional learning
needs

Type of artefact

These are my goals

for my final
professional
experience in May.

Describe the artefact and indicate the possible impact

or result on teaching and/ or student learning

This document highlights the areas I think I did well in

during my last professional experience and which
Australian Professional Standard for Teaching [APST]
they address. However, reflective practice is a great
trait for a beginning teacher. I know that there were
certain areas I did poorly in during my last professional
experience and I am determined to resolve this during
my next professional experience.
The goals in this document each have an action plan
which address the SMART goals framework to ensure I
can achieve them during this professional experience.

Describe how the artefact

meet the standard descriptors you have identified.

6.1 Identify and plan professional learning needs.

The point of this Standard is to know how to use the APSTs as a tool to
identify your professional learning needs. For each area I think I have or
have not achieved the relevant APST(s) has been identified. When
developing these goals, I read through each group of standards and
identified those I was having trouble meetly. I then thought reflectively
on why I had not achieved that Standard and how I could ensure I met it
in my next professional experience. The three main areas I need to
improve during my last professional experience is having a prepared
broad teaching plan, consistency in behaviour management, and being
part of the community.
