Abortion

To whom it may concern,

Abortion is the process of medically ending a pregnancy so that it does not result in the birth of a
child. This has been a very controversial topic among citizens in the United States, as to whether
or not abortion should be legal. Im going to list the following pros and cons of abortion.
Pro-Legal Abortion:
It has been declared by the US Supreme Court that abortion should be a fundamental right
guaranteed by the US Constitution. On Jan. 22, 1973 in the case of Roe v. Wade, it was stated
that in the Constitution it says a guarantee of certain areas or zones of privacy and that
abortion is a womans right of privacy as to whether or not they want to terminate the pregnancy.
Personhood does not start at conception, it begins after a fetus is able to survive outside the
womb. Abortion does not terminate a baby, but a pregnancy. They terminate the embryo and
fetuses which are not independent. They are not counted as persons. Pregnant women are
given the option to abort if the fetus has abnormalities. There are some cases where a fetus is has
such a severe disorder that death is guaranteed before or shortly after birth. Forcing a women to
carry a fetus with such a severe disorder is cruel. There are also nonfatal conditions such as
Down syndrome that may cause the parent to want to abort because of financial reasons. They
may not have the resources to provide for them or the attention that they may require.
Con-Legal Abortion
Abortion is murder. Many think that killing an unborn child is still considered murder. The
Unborn Victim Act, protect unborn children from assault and murder. At least 38 states have
passed a similar fetal homicide law. Aborting is the killing of a human being, which defies the
word of god. When a baby is conceived it is now recognized by god. Thou shalt not kill is

written in the bible, this includes those that are not yet born. Abortion reduces the number of
adoptable babies. Eliminating the fetus will only take away a child that someone else can take
care of. Giving the baby up for adoption instead of having an abortion gives another family an
opportunity to care for it. There are families that are not able to have children of their own and
adoption is one of the possible solutions. Women should not be able to use abortion as a form of
contraception. If they become pregnant they should take responsibility for the child that was
created.
I personally am pro-choice. A woman has a right on what she wants to do with her body. This
makes her feel empowered and is given a choice as to whether or not she wants to keep it. There
are other things to consider such as financial support and whether or not the women is suited to
take care of a child. There are also reasons such s rape as to why women want to abort a child.
They may want to move on from that and having a child would only remind them of their
suffering. If a women is forced to bring a child into the world, then the child may possibly be
neglected because of the unwontedness. No child deserves to feel that way.
Having protected sex is a way to eliminate an accidental insemination. We should support
women and what their choice is when it comes to abortion because once again they are the one
carrying the baby for 9 months. Women should not have to follow laws that affect them and their
body. Most of the laws that prohibit abort were passed by male votes, so in reality women didnt
have much choice.
This is an important topic in todays society because we are seeing less and less places where
women can choose whether or not they want to have an abortion. These women are not being
supported in their choice. Companies are also at threat by those who o not support abortion.
