Teaching Philosophy
The main reason I decided to pursue a career in teaching is because I want future
generations to become life-long learners. Implementing 21 st century skill, collaboration,
inquiry, and project based learning into my classroom, I believe I can accomplish my
goal of creating citizens to be life-long learners.
Through my experience as a pre-service teacher and an instructional aide, I have had a
rewarding experience to grow and become a teacher that inspires their students to want
to learn. Both schools that I worked in are very diverse and understanding that each
student is unique to the classroom drives my practices. Incorporating multiple
intelligence in the class reaches this idea of diversity. Having an environment where
students are able to learn in a way that is best for them and permitting them to express
understanding in multiple ways allows for the students to learn through multiple modes
of instruction and fosters a willingness to learn.
There are multiple was that I strive to inspire my students to become life-long learners.
First by incorporating 21st century skills into the classroom fosters a learning that can be
transferred to real world applications. Secondly, I believe that students need to work
collaboratively within groups. Group-work is something that is very common in the
workplace for multiple fields of study. Giving the students opportunities to work
collaboratively allows each student to grow skills of problem solving, cooperation, and
teamwork. These skills can then be used in a future career for each individual student
on any career path that they will take.
The two main teaching styles that I like to use in the classroom are inquiry-based
learning and project-based learning. Both allow me as a teacher to implement the 21 st
century skill and collaboration within the classroom. These two styles are incorporated
throughout multiple units of a class as they both allow students to be engaged and have
a willingness to be learners. These teaching styles will be incorporated alongside a
foundation of the concept through an investigation. This allows for students to reinforce
their understanding and build upon what they know.

When I decided I wanted to be a teacher I knew that it was for the students. Being able
to be a part in the learning process for these individuals and to teach them necessary
skills to become part of society with a willingness to learn drives my passion for the
teaching profession.
