Counting:

Counting is the action of finding the number of elements of a finite set

of objects. Its important for children to know how to count because it
helps them to put numbers in order. I have to share my lesson plan
that includes the five es in my teaching style to teach young children
around kindergarten age this specific concept.

The Five Es:

Engage: The purpose for the ENGAGE stage is to pique student

interest and get them personally involved in the lesson, while preassessing prior understanding. It is the most important part of learning
if I know how to engage the students, so I can control their abilities and
levels of learning. I will start the lesson by showing them a simple
video that related to counting such as: song of number, diagram or
photos. First, I ask them to sing and repeat with the video. Then I tell
them what they understand from it and what they see, so they can
know the topic of the lesson from these steps.

Explore: The purpose for the EXPLORE stage is to get students

involved in the topic; providing them with a chance to build their own
understanding. In this part the students have to use their abilities and
what they understand to start search. Actually, it works well with
students because depends to what they saw and know. So, I will ask
them to make groups of two or three students. Then, each group will
have a different box with numbers and random flowers. Therefore, they
have to count the numbers of the flowers then chose number from the
box and put it in front of the flowers. It develops their intrapersonal
skills because they do their own activities by themselves.

Explain: The purpose for the EXPLAIN stage is to provide students with
an opportunity to communicate what they have learned so far and
figure out what it means. In this part the teacher can make sure if the
students understand if they did well in the activity or not by explaining
their works. After exploring the activity, I ask the group members to
come in front of the board and explain what they did and how they use
counting concept to solve the activity.

Elaborate: The purpose for the EXTEND stage is to allow students to

use their new knowledge and continue to explore its implications. In
this part they develop a deeper understanding. So, I will elaborate
the students by asking them to change the place of their groups and
doing the counting activity that were with the others teams. By
doing this I can make sure if they understand the lesson and their
abilities of learning is getting better.

Evaluate: The purpose for the EVALUATION stage is for both students
and teachers to determine how much learning and understanding has
taken place. The final part, it allows teachers to evaluate students and
make sure they understand. I will give them a worksheet that includes
some of counting questions to test their comprehension for counting
and how they will work on it.
