Portfolio Keeping: Writing Prompt One
A portfolio is a documentation of work that an individual has created over a given
timeframe. The type of portfolio which I have become familiar with, through conversations, is a
presentation portfolio showcasing the various works of an individual. I do not have any prior
experience with creating portfolio; however, by knowing the term I would associate it with a
collection of paper documents.
In comparison to the highlighted elements of a portfolio stated in the introduction of the
guide, Portfolio Keeping, my basic understandings are similar to the descriptions provided. The
components which interest me are the two types and the three principles of portfolios. From my
previous understanding, there is only one type in which it is a collection of works. However,
portfolios can either be a process, which demonstrates a learning, or a presentation, which
displays the learning. The principles of choice, variety, and reflection allow the development of a
portfolio to be organized in a manner depicting the various attributes of the individual. Normally
I would refer to similar principles during my work process because they aid in building the
foundation of the project.
This portfolio project is very intriguing for the matter that I have not created a portfolio
before. Some concerns I have regarding this project are working with an electronic portfolio,
researching various consecutive projects, and organizing the materials to my liking. Creating the
portfolio electronically will not be a problem because I adapt to technology quickly; however,

what concerns me is technology can also be tedious to work with. The assignments associated
with the project and its organization will be a time consuming task. Overall the tasks seem
simple because there is a guide that explains the process; nevertheless, I will be expecting
struggles throughout the semester.
