CONTRACTUAL BRIEF

A CONTRACTUAL BRIEF IS A LEGAL DOCUMENT, WHICH IS CREATED BETWEEN AN EMPLOYEE

AND CLIENT. IT OUTLINES THE DUTIES THAT WILL BE REQUIRED BY THE COMPANY, AND HOW
THE COMPANY ORGANISES THEIR WORK. IT IS A DOCUMENT WHICH STATES THE EXPECTATIONS
OF THE CLIENT, THE PRICES THEY AGREE ON, AS WELL AS THE PAYMENT TERMS.
ADVANTAGES: IT GIVES THE COMPANY AN IDEA OF WHAT THE CLIENT WANTS THEM TO ACHIEVE,
WHILST ALSO INITIATING A STABLE PRICE RANGE, WHERE THE CLIENT AND THE EMPLOYER WILL
AGREE ON A SET INCOME WITH THE EMPLOYER THROUGH THE CONTRACTUAL BRIEF.
DISADVANTAGES: THE CLIENT MAY REQUIRE A HEAVY WORKLOAD FROM THE EMPLOYER, WHICH
WILL PUT A STRAIN UPON THEM, AND WITH ADVERTISING, A LOT OF CREATIVITY IS REQUIRED.

CONTRACTUAL
BRIEF
EXAMPLE

FORMAL BRIEF
A formal brief is a document that includes detailed information about what the client
wants the company to achieve. It is usually a straightforward document, which
restrains from including any unwanted information. The brief itself may not always be
classified as a legal document.
Advantages: The document its is clear as well as concise as it lacks in any form of
complexity, refraining from including extended legal terms within its theses.
Disadvantages: The contact is very general, as opposed to the structure of a regular
contract, the employer as well as the client

NEGIOTIATED BRIEF
The is where the client and the employer will come to a specific agreement upon
the brief of the project, which will include the final ideas of both the employer as
well as the client. It is important that the client and employer/company agree on
the brief, or it will cause inevitable problems in the future.
Advantages: It brings the ideas f the client and employer together, and merges
them into one, creating a brief that is suitable for both employer, as well as the
client, which means they are less likely to quarrel in the future over the terms of
the legal agreement.
Disadvantages: The client and the employer negotiate their brief, they may come
to a disagreement, that may result in the employer losing the potential work as
they may deny the requirements stated by the client which means that the client
may siphon their project out to another employer or company.

INFORMAL BRIEF

Informal briefs are open minded and are normally done face to face so in a
meeting. An advantage of This would make people feel more relaxed in the
environment and the product could be done a lot quicker that usual. The
disadvantage is they are usually seen as unprofessional and unclear.

COMMISSION BRIEF

This is a written form of a brief and is usually wrote to production companies,

things need to be stated in the brief like main things about your certain product so
the target audience, purpose etc The budget and deadline would also have to be
included. In a way its like the client is telling the company their idea and going into
detail about all the different points. The advantage of this is you wont have to
present it and the disadvantage is that it will have to be detailed fully.

TENDER

A tender brief is a brief that you would receive if you are the new company, you
would develop your own ideas amongst others and from there the company would
decide if you should be the client for the project. An advantage of this is that you
would be very relaxed and it may seem quite easy the disadvantage is you may
not be chosen as the final client.

COMPETITION

Example

This is basically what a company or

business will do to advertise certain
things, like a new product or a new deal
that they would be planning. The brief
would cover the competition and what you
would receive if you do enter and end up
winning, it would also talk about the
company and what theyre aiming to do. It
would give you instructions that you would
need to follow in order to enter and what
you would need to produce.
