BRTS Amritsar: Introduction

Massive Plantation Drive

As the Amritsar BRTS project is nearing completion, Punjab Bus Metro Society
proposes to launch a massive plantation drive along the corridors to enhance
the green cover of the city. There is a provision for plantation of at least 2000
trees as well as shrubs along the corridors apart from the mandatory
afforestation drive to be carried out by Forest Dept. as per prevalent norms.
There is also a provision in the project for providing tree guards along with
the maintenance and watering facilities for these plantation. Suggestions are
invited from the city residents, NGOs and General Public for the proposed
plantation along the BRTS corridors in the city. The suggestions may be sent
considering the climate, ecological & aesthetic value, growth characteristics,
physical characteristics (bark, texture, foliage, shade etc.), propagation &
maintenance, vegetation types (evergreen or deciduous), age , pollution
control, flowering season etc.
