First Day Writing Exercise:
I would like you to describe what you think of the terms compose,
design, and advocate. This can either be your own definition or a short
story of when you composed, designed, or advocated something. If you
do not know what these terms mean, use your imagination and come up
with your best assumption of what you think they mean.
I would also like you to explain anything about writing in relation to
your past. This can be interpreted in whatever way you would like. For
example, you can talk about what you think writing is, based on what
you have learned in past classes. You could tell me how writing helps
you or your apprehensions about writing. Have you ever turned in a
paper that your teacher really enjoyed or that you enjoyed writing? Was
there a paper you particularly did not enjoy? These are only examples,
you can describe writing in relation to anything else you can think of.
Please write your response in paragraph form. Make sure to write your
full name at the top of the paper as well as your preferred name. After
you are done, turn in your response and you are free to leave. Please do
not hesitate to ask me questions after you are done or contact me through
