Author Biography
If someone wanted to be a runner, you dont tell them to think about running,
you tell them to run! And it is the same simple idea applies to writing, I hope.
- Markus Zusak

Markus Zusak was born on June 23, 1975 in Sydney New whales Australia. Zusak
has an older brother and was always the quiet one in school. His parents were raised in a
former Nazi Germany, but fled the country. Zusak would often make his parents cuss at
him and his brother because he liked the sound of it. Even as a boy Markus loved to read,
and some of his most influencing authors are: Grahm Greene, Sylvia Plathy, and Morris
West. He started to write at 16, and completed his first unpublished manuscript at age 18.
He studied to become a teacher at a University and then became an English teacher.
Early in Markuss career, he would teach. On his free time he would write 8 pages
of a book, then he would either scrap them, or edit them and make it part of his book. His
Parents would often encourage him to become a writer, and his biggest influence for his
most famous book, The Book thief, was his parents. They would often tell Markus of
their experiences in Germany. In the authors career, he would often procrastinate on a
book. He felt that, like a school assignment, it should feel like the paper (or in this case a
book) is due the very next day. Some of his work includes: The underdog (1999),

Fighting Ruben Wolf (2000), When Dogs Cry (2003), The messenger (2005), and the
book thief (2006). Markus Zusak would often struggle with his work, but it would always
come out good or maybe even better, even though Markus still questions the book thief a
little bit. His most significant works is The Book Thief, and it is one of my favorite
books.
All of Zusaks books showed society that there was more to a person then what
they appear, and also that there is a power that words hold that can captivate a nation, or
even a select few. It is how you use those words that truly affect a persons life. Today he
should be writing a book called Bridge of Clay, and spending time with his wife and
child, Nikita. This Author will be remembered most by his words. How he could bend
and shape a word that left the reader thinking about why the character did what he/she
did, or to why society does this today.
His work will be remembered as one of the greatest forms of literature out there.
His books show that words can change a person, and that fists arent always the answer. I
would recommend his work to people everywhere because his use of description and
funny remarks help people see in new ways. One of his books that have been in the New
York Times is called, The book thief, Is one of my favorite books, if not greater. This
book teaches people that, although some people who lived in Nazi Germany were
ruthless, there are little rays of hope that can save lives of others. Those few people who
can show compassion to those in need, where other people would turn away and shutter.
Markus Zusak just went for it and wrote what he felt, and this is what makes him a
remarkable author today.
