Subject: User Test Memo

Introduction
This memo is a report of how the users interpreted my instruction. The topic of my instruction
was how to create a paper dahlias.
There were two methods that I used to test my users. The methods that I use was survey and
interview.
The result of the test was that 2 out of the 3 users found the instruction to be complicated.

Objective
The objective of the instruction was to teach a person who would like to know how to create a
paper dahlias to learn how to create one in a simple way. A list below show what Im looking for
to improve my instruction.

How well the user perform

o The user reaction to the instruction and many time do they ask question about the
instruction
How did their result look like
o The result of the instruction show how much the users understand the instruction
and if the result look the same as it is supposed to look like
How the user discover their way out if they get lost while navigating the instruction
o The methods that the user use to fix their mistakes

Method
There were two methods that I use for my test users. The first method that I used was the survey,
for the survey I used Likert-Scale. The second method that I used was interview.
The methods is use for me to understand what the users understand and what is useful and if
there is anything that need to be add.
There are three test users that experienced my instruction, user A, user B and user C. As shown
below it show which method I used and why for each user.

User A
o A novice to the topic of my instruction
o method that is given was a survey
easy form to answer
instruction took time to perform
User B
o a novice
o method that is given was a survey
easy form to answer
instruction took time to perform and there is a time limit
User C
o a novice
o method that is given was an interview
last user so there were more time to answer questions
face to face with the user give a better understanding of how they feel
about the instruction

Results
The result of the users are shown below.
User A
User A found some obstacle with the instruction as shown below.

Scare of the hot glue, so it took longer time to complete the instruction
Have a hard time understanding the instruction
o Saw the first step and not the materials
WikiHow format is that materials are supposed to be at the bottom
Didnt finish, because of time

User B
Out of the three users User B has the poorest result. What is shown below is what User B did
wrong and how I observe the problem.

Glue the paper cone backward

o My observation
There were pictures for every step in the instruction I dont understand
how can User B miss it
Did not notice until the end of instruction
Performance explain that user B did not try to understand the instruction
but just rush though instruction

User C
The result of User C show that User C made an effort. User C actually read the instruction and
took time to complete the instruction. User C was able to work out the instruction not asking a
lot of question. The end product of User C turn out much better than the other users.

Conclusions
Seeing the difficulty that the user goes through I made some change to my instruction as shown
below.

Include in my introduction that the paper is being cut in 4 by 4

Add a step to glue the center piece to the middle of the flower
Add FAQ that pertain to the problem that my users encountered.
