Forster, Julia. Student-Athletes and Academic Success. Thesis. 2012. Print.

While this paper talks a lot about college athletes it still touches on high
school and how being on a team affects athletes in their work life after college. She
has it broken down into subtitles so it will be easy to find the info I need or want.
Also if I need more information she has a full paper full of sources.

This is a peer reviewed paper written by Angela Lumpkin. It talks about the
data she collected in 2008-09 and she compares non-athletes to athletes in a small
town of Kansas. She compares not only grades and GPA but also graduation rates
and dropout rate.
Study Shows High School Athletes Perform Better in School, Persist to Graduation

This article is another study in Kansas done in 2011-2012 school year. The
two ladies studies students in grades nine through 12. The start by talking about the
old myths about dumb jocks and then talk about how much a good coach can
impact a kids life. This article talks about the states policy of grade and attendance
minimum that athletes must uphold to play and the effect that has had since it was
instituted. The author also argues that playing sports is not what makes a kid

smarter, its the lessons that are learned and the want to of the kids to play the
sports.
"The Case for High School Activities." Www.nfhs.org. Web. 05 Apr. 2016.
This is an article written by the National Federation of state High School
Association. In this article they talk about all the benefits that come from being on a
team, such as higher grades, development skills, and skills that help you work with
others. Another aspect this article reaches that many do not is that sports also
promote a healthier lifestyle. This article is good for me because it hits many things
that other papers do not and I like how it compares high school sports to many of
the other after school activities.

Schools From 1993 Through 1996." The High School Journal 82.4 (1999): 223233. PsycINFO. Web. 31 Mar. 2016.
This is a peer reviewed article written by Roger Whitley. To me this is a great
source because she spent over 3 years collecting data from 285,805 students. She
compared the educational performance of athletes to non-athletes and also did
male athletes to female athletes. In her studies she found that not only did athletes
have a higher averages academically but also had better attendance then the nonathletes

School." NASSP

Bulletin 82.599 (1998): 63-72. ERIC. Web. 31 Mar. 2016.

This is a study done in Canada in 1999. This one is useful to me because the
author narrows it down to just volleyball and basketball players to non-athletes. The
author compares the grades the attendance and also the conduct of non-athletes to
the volleyball players and basketball players.
