Assessment 1

Its very good to have a positive classroom environment. So there are two important reasons to
have a perfect class. First, I should design my classroom with different learning centers
because children have to be more active. In addition, they will be able to share with each
other, solving their problems and learning different things. Another reason is students do have
different learning style such as kinesthetic, listening, visual, verbal, social, solitary.
(Overview of learning styles,2016). Learning centers can help children to meet the diverse
needs and skill levels of young children because children learn by doing. (Bitner,2003)
Thats why having different learning style is important. In this essay I will explain my own
classroom design, I have five learning centers which are reading and listening center, art
center, role-play center, writing center and science center.

On the top left-hand corner of my classroom the Reading and Listening center. This center is
a very important center for the children in the classroom because it is how they develop their
minds and discover new things. For example, reading will help them develop their language
skills and it also helps them to listen to each other. Another reason, reading teaches children
about the world around them, they learn about people, places and events outside their own
experience. (Lindsay,2011) Furthermore, it has a big book shelf with a lot of books for the
children that they can take to their home and read in their own time. The teacher sits and the
children sit around her, then she reads stories for them, they listen to her and answer if she
asks questions.

On the top right-hand corner of my classroom the role play center, this center is very useful
because children can play and sit with each other and pretend that they are someone else and
use their imagination. But they are not only enjoy playing with each other, they also benefit
from this center in many ways such as solving problems, social emotional and collaboration
skills. Role play is the most effective way of acquiring language. (Dobson,2004)

On the middle of the classroom is the Art center. This center is very useful because art
allows children to express strong emotions and feelings that they may have difficulty
verbalizing. (bullard,2010) Also, art center is a way for the children to channel their inner
thoughts and not be judged on their work and feel free to create what ever they want. This
center has a lot of tools that are not harmful, they cut their papers by and stick things together
such as papers, scissors, glue, pencils and colors.

On the bottom right-hand corner of my classroom the writing center. This center is also one
of the important centers in each classroom. Writing skills are important because they need

these skills for their future, and to develop for their higher knowledge and classes when they
begin to reach upper levels. In addition, handwriting is a basic tool used in many subjects
such as taking tests, doing classroom work and homework (swerling,2006) because children
must know how to write numbers, letters, words then their names. In this center children also
develop their writing skills and their fine motor skills. This center has a books shelf that they
can leave their writing booklets in it.

On the bottom left-hand corner of my classroom the science center. This center where the
children can do lots of experiences by their hands; there are many practical activities. It is
about oil and water, vinegar volcano and taste without smell. However, children need certain
strategies and skills, such as making decisions, carrying out plans and sharing with others in
order to play and learn independently. (Magnuson,2010). It is very easy, fun and safe for
them. So with those experiments children will learn about the environment and how they can
solve problems or make things by themselves. This center includes a lot of safety tools and
equipment like water activity tools, goggles, simple chemistry tools like beakers and
measuring tools, weighing base and microscopes.

The two centers science center and role play center are very similar in a way. In the science
center, the children learn a lot of different experiments and laws in biology, chemistry, and
physics. In the role play center, the children can take the things they learn in the science
center and imagine that they are doing their experiments and they can apply these lessons in
their roleplay, pretending that they are doing these things and being doctors and knowing the
different human organs. They are also different because the role play center they learn
through play, but in the science center, they can actually see and learn through lessons by
their teacher.

To conclude, it is important to design our classroom because the children are given as much
as freedom of choice and independence in their learning possible and it enhances learning
across many curriculum areas. (whitebread,1996) Children can be more active in the
classroom they learn problem solving by these practical activities. This also helps with
differentiating the various learning styles that children have.
