I noticed one student in my class during my teaching

practice. He did strange behavior during the lesson. I
observed him all the time and I try to think why he do
that thing when I asked the teacher she told me Mayad
has Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) that
mean the child is unable to control behavior, talk too
much and easily distracted. (Definition of Attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder, 2012) Mayad is in the
grade 2, he is 8 years old, he study in American School
of Creative Science. He cant stay in the same place he wants to walk
or run in the class .also, he starts to talk with his friend when the
teacher explains the lesson .also, he always ignores what teacher says
and play with his pencil or write in the book also, sometimes he draw
in the desk. In addition, he always touches or hit his friends when he
walk around the class. The teacher used some strategies for keeping
him in control, for example, she uses a reward system for the class
behavior. Also, she takes his pencil when he start to play with it, also,
she sits with him during the activity time to support him.
Some teachers used both approaches and they are different.
Accommodation that mean teacher change how students receive the
information without changing the learning goal (Teaching All Students
Staff Guide to Accommodations and Modifications, 2006).For example,
the teacher used the same curriculum that means some student cant
solve math problem quickly they want time to finish, the teacher give
them time to finish. Another one is a modification that means teacher
change the learning goal (Modifications for Special Education Students:
Definition & Checklist, 2003). For example, the teacher removes some
curriculum for the student to make it appropriate for him that mean
some student cant memorize all vocabulary words, the teacher give
them half of them. There are some suggests the teacher can use to
bring successful learning.
Accommodation approach:
1. For example, if the teacher observes ADHD student look at the
windows or door that mean this student easily distracted. (Seay,
1998 )
What she can do?
In this cause, she can change the student place, she can put him
in the center or near her, away from the door and the windows.
(Seay, 1998 ) I think this strategy work, but not successful
because I observed when the teacher used he still dont pay
attention, he starts to make sounds.

2. For example, if the teacher sees ADHD student touch his friend
or talks with his friend. (Seay, 1998 )
What she can do?
In this cause, she can try to increase the distance between desks
in the class time, but if it in circle time she can try to leave space
for each student. (Seay, 1998 ) . I think this strategy work in
class time, but do not work in circle time because I noticed ADHD
student still try to hit his friends.
Modification approach:
1. For example, if the teacher observes ADHD student in test time
he cant finish in the time.
What she can do?
In this cause, she can give him extra time to write what he know,
but do not change the test or make it easy for him it only to give
him extra time to finish it. (Flippin, 1998 )
2. For example, if the teacher see ADHD student move all the time
in the class and he dont want to sit.
What she can do?
In this cause, she can let him work with her or she can give him
work to do it to burn off some energy. (Flippin, 1998 )
Both strategies successful because I noticed when he has the
extra time he can think and finish all questions. Also, it helps him
to burn off some energy and used in a good way.
IEP shortcut for Individual Education Plan that means a written plan
describing the special education program and services required by a
specific student, based on assessment include the strong and what
student need that affect the students ability to learn. (Education,
2004) IEP work to help teachers and parents to know how to put goals
or objectives for special need student also, how to achieve it and they
linked with domains. In my cause, I want to achieve many goals. As Piaget
suggests four stage for children development. (McLeod, 2009) Mayad in
Concrete operational stage (7- 11). In this stage, children improve better than
another stage and they able to achieve many things. In Mayad cause, he
needs to improve his motor, social and cognitive domains.

Motor domain:
Objective:

I want Mayad to be able to sit in the chair for 10 minutes without

touch his friend or walk around the class.
How I will achieve:
By doing exercise before the lesson, while the lesson and after
each activity to burn off some energy. In each time I will do
different exercise for the student, for example, I will do some
exercise (strong exercise) before starting the lesson then when I
see ADHD student want to move I will start another exercise
(jump 10 times) after that, I will do another exercise (hand up
stand up) to change the routine of the class for him. I will
measure by observation, I will observe what he do in the class.
Why?
I chose this goal because when he start to walk around the class
or touch his friend he Interrupt the class and I lose everyone
attention.

Social domain:
Objectives:
I want Mayad to be able to collaborate with his group in activity
time.
I want Mayad to be able to participate in the classroom.
How I will achieve:
By doing group activity in the class, for example, I will give him
to be the leader of the group and I will give him some work to do
it as a group then he will try to be a good leader. Also, by doing
an attractive activity to attract him for example, I will use IPad or
smart board and some video game or physical game. Also, by
using a reward system or give him a star or happy face he will be
happy and start to participate in the class to get it. I will measure
by classroom participation and classwork. I will see how many
time he participate and how he work in a group.
Why?
I chose these goals because I want to improve his social skills
and build a relationship with his friends also, to get a good mark
in the class participation.

Cognitive domain:
Objective:
I want Mayad to be able to solve math problem each one in 5
minutes.
How I will achieve:
By using math website to help him, also by giving him extra
worksheet to practice in it. For example, I will give him worksheet
to practice in the class and in the home to improve their

cognitive skills, for example, he will be able to remember the

step of the addition and subtraction because he practices all the
time. I will measure by classwork and test, I will watch how he
work in the class and when he has a math test.
Why?
I chose this goal because he finds difficult to solve a math
problem and he wasting time to finish it.
The teacher can use many devices for ADHD student for example
(IPad, computer, dancing machine, video games, and some website).
How it helps ADHD student?

ADHD student has difficult to learn color or numbers or letters

the teacher can used dancing machine that means ADHD student
learn by dancing. For example, the student will stand in the
dancing machine and see the screen when he see blue color on
the screen he will stand in the blue area also, it helps ADHD
student to burn off energy in a good way and helps him to learn.

ADHD student has difficult to remember all vocabulary words the

teacher can use a video game that means ADHD student learn
by watching and play video game. For example, the student will
click on each word to hear it and he will see the picture to
remember it.

ADHD student has difficult to solve math problem the teacher

can use website that means the student will learn by using math
website. For example, the student will log in to math website and
start to solve a problem that helps him to practice more and he
will able to do it in next time.
