choicetomakeresponsibledecisionsabouttheirworkintheclassroom.The
teachersorcaregiverscanhelpthisbycreatingaclassroomenvironmentwhere
thereareareasforlearningaroundtheroomthatchildrencanexplorethroughout
theday.Duringtheday,childrenwillbeabletoplayinasafeenvironmentwhere
theycanlearntoplaywitheachotherandtakeresponsibilitytomakegood
choices.Otherwaystogetstudentstofeelresponsibleintheclassroomisby
extendingtheirlearningtohelpothers.Atthesametime,theteachercan
demonstratethattheycareabouttheirstudentsbyaskingstudentsquestionsduring
certainactivitiesandthenfollowingupwithstudentsiftheyhaveaproblem.
Teachersneedtoalsocreatestructuresintheclassroomwherestudentsfeel
includedandappreciatedbypeersandteachers.Caregiverscandothisthrough
morningmeetings,encouragementthroughouttheday,orprojectswherestudents
getachancetosharewhattheylearn.Duringmeetingtimes,teachersaskmore
openendedquestionsandaskstudentstoelaborateontheirownthoughtsandon
theirclassmatesthoughts.Whenclassroomdiscussionsaredonewell,students
andteachersareconstantlybuildinguponeachothersthoughts,thiswaystudents
canextendtheirownthinkingandexpandonthethinkingoftheirclassmates.
