Final Reflection

Choose a song or musical composition that communicates your

experience with writing and UWRT 1102. Consider including a video of the
song. Explain your choice.
For my song I choose Why Should I Worry by Billy Joel in the movie Oliver
and Company. Honestly it reminds be that writing should not be something I
have to stress over. If I am going to write it should be only for my
enjoyment and nothing else. Once I get the rhythm of writing i can get it
down. The lyric being The rhythm of the city but once you get it down
then you can own this town you can wear the crown. If I get it down I can
have the possibility of using what I learned and fitting my writing in
anywhere.

If you were to teach this class, what ideas would you emphasis?
If I had the opportunity to teach this class I would emphasis more on the
SLOs. Id add more examples of the works assigned. Especially the rhetorical
knowledge, critical reading, composing processes, knowledge of conventions,
and critical reflection.

Explain how your understanding of rhetorical knowledge has changed

over the course of the semester using at least three examples from your
writing. Ex. Did you shift an assignment to better fit a particular genre like a
proposal?
I believe my understanding of rhetorical knowledge has expanded over the
semester. In my Thesis paper I was originally confused and was keeping my
options less open. I did not understand how to write a paper thesis. I was
mostly familiar with scientific thesis writing. This was more open writing. In
my daybooks towards the end of the semester I used more of what I had
learned from reading others and applying it to my own writings. I applied
what I learned in my annotated bibliographies to my thesis paper.
1. Explain how your critical reading has improved during the semester.
Ex. In what ways did you read across texts for connections and
patterns in your inquiry?
For critical reading I would read it initially and then go back and re-read
anything I did not understand. Try to interpret and relate what I was
reading. I had to choose my Annotated Bibliographies wisely because I knew
they would be put to use in my future writing, Thesis Paper. I had to pick
seven sources that I thought would make a good fit in my paper. That was
critical reading on my part, being able to pick out the most important
information.

2. Discuss your composing processes. Ex. Did you conduct additional

research while revising or after consulting a colleague? Provide at
least three examples to support your assertion.
During my composing process I did preliminary research to find how I wanted
the paper to flow and then while I was writing I would add more in depth
research. After the student comment days I then looked back at my work and
made changes that I thought would better the paper and help the audience
better understand. In my thesis paper I wrote what I wanted to say and then I
went back and added more facts that supported my thesis. My annotated
bibliographies were straight forward. When I felt I didnt have enough
knowledge I would go back and read more in-depth. In my inquiry proposal I
wrote what I knew on the topic and then I researched more to make it more
in-depth.

Provide at least three examples of your knowledge of conventions Ex.

sentence level changes, MLA citations.
Three examples of knowledge of conventions is mechanics, usage, sentence
formation. Mechanics are whats written, the spelling, punctuation,
capitalization, and paragraphs. Usage is word order, verb tense, and subject
verb agreement. Sentence formation is the structure of the sentences.

Critical Reflection: A) Explain the importance of reflection in learning

processes. B) Explain what you think is important in providing commentary
on others work and receiving commentary on your own. C) Provide at least
three examples of your nuanced use of commentary in your writing projects.

It is important to the writing process when incorporating a reflection. A

reflection helps to show the writers thoughts and their process while writing
the reflection and how over time the writer has developed their works.
Giving and receiving comments on work is beneficial for both parties. That
way the writer has some outside few points and can make adjustments to
the writing as they see fit and the viewing party can gain some insight on
future writing endeavors. On my thesis paper I was given advice to change
how I was directing my thesis. Instead of an mammal vs. fish statement, I
changed it to how all animals can satisfy the human population.
