CIRCUIT RIDER

May 2, 2016

Hey church!
It is such a fascinating, exciting time in the life of our church. We've seen
people renew their relationship with God. We've seen folks begin their walk
with the Lord, symbolized by their baptisms. And we've heard through some
powerful testimonies of how folks are deepening their relationship with God.
We're taking a real look at how our ministries match up to the needs of our
community, and how to most effectively reach out and invite neighbors to
partner with us. Soon, we'll have Ministry Teams evaluating each of our
ministries to see how they help us accomplish our vision to be a church that
brings Jesus from the margins to the center in ministry for and with
neighborhood families- you might be asked to be on one of those teams!
And it's been so exciting to see how our family of faith is growing. We've
seen a 12% increase in attendance since 2015. And while numbers are not at all
a measure of success, they are an indicator that we are living into our calling to
share the good news with those God has put in our path. Due to the success of
our attendance challenge (5 out of 7 Sundays we reached 215 or more in
worship), I was forced to pony up and kiss a pig last Sunday. She was a little too
eager if you ask me! : ) But remember- our real motivation is to enable other
people to experience a relationship with their Father, so let's keep on sharing
your stories and inviting your friends.
Thank you to all who have stepped up to my call for an additional $250 per
member above and beyond your current giving- you are resourcing ministry that
is having an eternal impact. A quick reminder- if you haven't edited your
Fellowship One profile to be included in our online directory- please do so. That
will become a helpful tool for our church, and it only takes just a few minutes to
set up.
Pasadena Faith in Action is coming up this weekend- please be in prayer for
all those participating in this annual ministry to do minor home repair for our
neighbors. And please keep praying for God's Spirit to continue to refresh,
guide, sustain, and strengthen our church.
Blessings,

Welcome New Members!

Childrens Ministry Happenings

Come join us in Club 252 Sunday
School and WOW Worship this
month as were learning about
Contentment deciding to be
happy with what youve got.
When we view our lives as
Gods gift to us, it changes the way we see things. You can
choose to be happy
because of what God has given you.
You can shift your focus away from what you dont have,
and toward what God desires for your life. When you trust
Him with your life, you become more focused on being
grateful. When you teach kids to see their life as a gift
from God, it sets them up for a life of contentment and
fulfillment. And when all of us really trust God, we will be
content with exactly what He has provided for us.
In First Look Pre-K Sunday School, were celebrating
friendship, and how we are better together. God gave us
a very precious gift when He gave us the gift of friendship.
Well even have a friendship day party at the end of the
month! We will be learning about David and Jonathan,
perhaps one of the greatest friendship stories in the Bible.
Our preschoolers will hear that friends do lots of fun things
together. We eat together and play together. Friends take
care of and help each other. Finally, friends praise God
together. Its a month full of friendship celebrating with
all of our First Look friends!
Our KidsLIFE group (K-5th grade, 5-6:30 Sunday
evenings) will continue to meet through June 5, with the
exception of May 8 (Mothers Day) and May 29 (Sunday
before Memorial Day). Come join your friends for fun
learning, games, activities, and snacks each week!
Our VBS Cave Quest is quickly approaching! We
will be Following Jesus the Light of the World. Look
for registration information in the church bulletin
registration opens May 1st. The dates for VBS this year are
July 25-29, from 9 am until noon each day. We need lots
of volunteers to make this a spectacular event, so please
prayerfully consider signing up to help! There is a signup
sheet in the main hall, or you can email me at
allison@asbury.cc or allisonlwj60@gmail.com.
Meet us in the sanctuary for our monthly Family Movie
Night on May 13 at 7 p.m., where we will be showing the
movie Despicable Me 2. Wear your pjs, and bring your
blanket and pillow! As always, we will have free popcorn
and lemonade for everyone, so bring a friend to share the
fun! See you at church!
Serving an Awesome God,

Allison

Crosstalk Student
Ministries News
Hello
Asbury!
God
continues to bless me
through my Asbury family! What an amazing day of worship
and fellowship we had on April 24th! I am so grateful to serve in
ministry here and look forward to seeing all God has in store for
His church.
Last month the Crosstalk Student Ministry Council held their
very first meeting where we discussed major goals of the
ministry and how we can shape the program so we
are developing students into church leaders that are in true, deep
discipleship with Jesus! My heart was filled with so much joy to
hear this amazing group ask God during our prayer time for
guidance in growing this ministry and then even more as
we discussed the future activities of the ministry! I thank God
for this council and would ask that you would be in prayer for us
as we continue to meet and work together to develop this
ministry!

On June 5th we will celebrate our graduating seniors as well

as our incoming 6th graders. We will have more details in the
following weeks but please plan to be at church on this special
Sunday to honor these students and all they have accomplished!
Please note we will NOT MEET for Crosstalk Sunday Evening
on May 8th in honor of Mothers Day and May 29th in honor of
Memorial Day.
Blessings,
Laurel Waller, Director of Student Ministries

High School & College Seniors! If you

are graduating from high school, college, or
a trade school this spring, please let us
know. We would like to recognize all of our
graduates during both worship services on
Sunday, June 5th. There will be tables set
up in the back of the Sanctuary for you to
set out pictures of your childhood years, as
well as a graduation picture. We would also like a copy of your
graduation picture for our May newsletter.
Please bring your Grad picture in to the office by Sunday,
May 15th or email a copy to Pat Sommerfield at
phs5374@yahoo.com.

Come check out our expanding selection of books,

located in the Community Room. Many of these books are
excellent reading material, often based on real life
experiences around the world, especially the way women
were mistreated and still rose above this. The United
Methodist Women have been involved with many missions,
which strikes our interest and may lead into action.. The
labeled books are all purchased with UMW funds. These
can be checked out, while the Christian fiction books are just
to enjoy.
The Readers Group shares these books within the
meeting at Dixie McAdams home on the 4th Monday of the
month.
We are currently reading books on Human
Trafficking and Climate Control. We welcome others to
join us.
If you have books to donate please contact Lu Harrison.
Our space is limited, but someday there will be a real
library. Susan Warner purchased the new corner case for
our books, which we appreciate. We welcome books given
in memory or honor of loved ones. These books will be
noted with labels indicating the information.
