Activity Title: Horticulture industries. Group project


Skill Level: Beginning Intermediate (High school)

3) Students will understand that plants go past the garden, Plants
positive effect in the workplace and healthcare facilities.
4) Students will understand how plants increase humidity levels in
indoor locations

Examination should include: development of vision and mission statements. Setting of

Research should include: Identifying related Career Clusters and Pathways. Determining the
education and experience required for specific careers. Examining the working conditions
associated with specific jobs in the horticulture industry. Developing a plan to gain the necessary
education and experience for a career in horticulture.

Time Needed: two class periods (two days)
Introduction Benefits of indoor plants. Start class off with the question of
the day. Todays question: What are some benefits of indoor plants that you
can think of. Go over this with students for 5-10 minutes.
Opening Questions: What are some benefits of indoor plants that you can
think of? What are some health benefits of indoor plants?
Background information:
PowerPoint labeled Benefits of indoor plants.
Experience explain the step by step process of what the facilitator would
do.Follow the experiential learning cycle. Explain:

Before the Activity


o Begin the lesson with a presentation (PPT, Prezi, etc.)
introducing benefits of indoor plants. Show students different
benefits and have discussions on these benefits.
o During presentation on slide 16 stop and ask students What do
Interiorscape Businesses actually do? Write down the students
answers as they talk then compare with the students their
answers to the following slide with the correct answers.
o Following the presentations, ask students:
What are some health benefits of indoor plants?
Why are indoor plants a positive subject for healthcare
facilities?
What are some examples of Interiorscapes?
o Pull up the last slide about the group project and discuss what it
is you are looking for. (hand rubric out to students and read
rubric quickly)
o The group project will take the remainder of the class and 15
minutes in the beginning of the next class followed by the
students presentations.

Share
At the end of the presentations ask the students to do a quick recap of
one of the presentations they found interesting. All students must do a
recap.

Reflect:
Reflect on some of the new topics that students presented on with the
students.
Tie those topics back to the benefits of indoor plants.
