Purpose of Government
The purpose of the government of the United States of America is clearly stated
in the Preamble of our constitution. There are six different specific purposes stated, and
can all be evaluated and described. Three of them that stick out to me are establishing
justice, providing for the common defense, and securing the blessings of liberty .
The term establish justice in the constitution means to begin fairness for all .
Justice is a concept of moral rightness based on ethics, rationality, law, natural law,
religion, or equity. An example of how the United States establishes justice is through
our trials. The judicial branch works to ensure that they have a jury that is completely
unbiased, by choosing from a random pool of the local population to aid in choosing the
final outcome of a case. This prevents people from judging the case based on how they
feel towards a particular person or based on past grievances . Our countrys powerful
law enforcement is another example of how our government manages to establish
justice. Through our police force we can control and maintain the chaos that would
break out on the streets. The police are there to protect us and keep our country safe.

Establishing justice is to create laws that are fair to all people, no matter gender, race,
religion, etc. The constitution gives this tasks to our court system . The supreme court
rules over the situations, and has the ultimate say in large cases . Without our national

system of courts, our country would not agree or be on the same page about anything .
Different states would all decided different outcomes and we would not be able to work
together as a whole if a disaster happened or we needed to make a simultaneous
decision. Our national courts take the charge on establishing justice, by keeping our
country together, and creating a structured system of laws . The Civil Rights Movement
is a prime example of how our country has pulled together to make an ultimate justified
decision that changed the course of our country and is the reason segregation no longer
exists today.
I think our government is working pretty well in regards to establishing justice .
Sometimes, not all the peoples wishes are accounted for, but that is something that
happens in a democracy when the majority rules, and cannot be avoided . If I could
change the way the system works in a few areas, I would, because not all people have
the opportunity to speak out about what they feel is right, and there is a growing
population of people in our country that do not like how it is run .

Providing for the common defense is something that is extremely important to our
country. Throughout our history, there have been number wars and attacks on our
country, yet for the most part we have managed to keep our civilian population safe
from harm. After the American Revolution, we were left without armed forces, because
of the toll the war had taken on us. When this situation happened, we realized we truly
needed our armed forces to protect us. We have different security agencies for this

purpose. The fire departments in our country, while not necessarily in charge of
controlling the people, do provide for our safety. In situations of terrorist attacks, the fire
department does a lot of damage control, and saves a lot of people from the ashes of
events. Our country could not function without them . The FBI (Federal Bureau of
Investigation), goes deeper into cases that cannot be necessarily solved by the normal
police force. They often get on top of terrorist attacks before they even happen, and in
that way save us from a lot of loss. Although the military does not always help us on our
own soil, they protect us from potential threats all around the world . On top of that, they
protect others when we see fit. Throughout cases like terrorism in other countries, our
military has protected the civilian population of other countries, since we want to help
the human race as a whole, and not be limited to our own .

In regards to providing for the common defense, I think that our government
could always help more. A lot of awful events that result in casualties cannot be
avoided, but some can. Many murders also go unsolved, simply because we dont
always have the time, which is a big problem for the people linked to it that are still
grieving from being without closure.
To secure the blessings of liberty means to make our rights safe and secure so
that they cannot be taken away. We have unalienable rights, which include the rights to

life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. In the beginning of our country, the people came
so that they could practice their religion freely, and not be bonded to rules of society in
their homeland. Other rights that our government needs to protect are those of freedom
of religion, freedom of speech, and the right to bear arms . Our government is actively
trying to take away our right to bear arms, which was put into place to give the people
an opportunity to rise up against the government in case it tries to overthrow the people .
Our country is a democracy, and the government is supposed to help us and protect us,
which is not always what it does. Freedom of speech and Freedom of the press are
rights that we have to actively speak our minds and share opinions . When the
government allowed union establishment, they allowed the people to actively engage in
practicing our freedoms and forming groups to participate together, even when the
government doesnt necessarily like it.
Goree 5
I think that the government is doing a poor job of securing the blessings of liberty .
They are forgetting the rights clearly stated in our constitution, and the very reason that
the people came to early America in the first place . Our government is actively trying to
suppress our freedom of speech and religion, which is awful and a complete human
right. We should be allowed to speak our minds and worship in whatever way we want
to, but the government does not even want us to speak about religion in schools, which
is a prime learning environment for children to choose . By suppressing our freedom of
speech and press, they are not allowing us to actively engage in conversations with
anyone about our opinions, which is what we should be allowed to do . Lastly, we should

all be able to bear arms. The government thinks that just because people kill people
with guns, guns are at fault. It is the opposite. Guns can be used to stop people who
intend to kill multiple people with their guns . Guns dont kill people, people kill people .
In conclusion, a lot of our government is biased to their own opinions, and not
thinking about the real needs of the people . Our government could be greatly improved,
but they do not always listen to how we feel, and sometimes become more authoritarian
instead of democratic. They protect us the best they can, but often do not allow us to
protect ourselves. They need to give us our full rights, as the government was originally
intended to do.
