The Symptoms
If anybody catches hookworms they will
experience Itching and a localized
rash. A person with a heavy infection
will get abdominal pain, Diarrhea, loss
of appetite, weight loss, fatigue, and
anemia.

What are the causes of Hookworms


Hookworms are cause these infections. The Necator
americanus hookworm is the most common cause of this
condition in the United States. The other type that
causes infections in humans is Ancylostoma duodenale.
There are two other types of hookworms, but they
mainly affect animals.
The eggs of these hookworms end up on the ground after
passing through human feces. They hatch into larvae,
which stay in the soil until they have a chance to
break through human skin.

Transmission- how do humans get it


The larvae mature into a form that can penetrate the skin of
humans. Hookworm infection is transmitted primarily by
walking barefoot on contaminated soil. One kind of hookworm
can be also transmitted through the ingestion of larvae.

What is the treatment now ? was there a treatment then ?


Treatment now is Albendazole or mebendazole (drugs used to eliminate worms
antihelminthic drugs For anemia, iron supplements.
