Extensive Services
The NE80E provides various features and
powerful service processing capabilities, thus
satisfying the service deployment requirements
of IP or MPLS core backbone networks and
backbone networks.
The NE80E supports VPN services. The Layer
2 VPN (L2VPN), Layer 3 VPN (L3VPN), and
multicast VPN (MVPN) can be all deployed
on the NE80E depending on networking
requirements. Trafc engineering (TE) can also
be congured at the same time. The NE80E
supports multiple access modes, including
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Inverse
Multiplexing over ATM (IMA) E1, Time-Division
Multiplexing (TDM), Packet over SONET (POS),
and Ethernet. It supports selective 802.1Q-in802.1Q (QinQ), Dynamic Host Conguration
Protocol (DHCP), and IP over Ethernet (IPoE).
Because the NE80E is suitable to access both
traditional services and newly emerging
services, it satises the needs of rich multiple
service environments.
The NE80E has powerful expandable
multicast capabilities with support for IPv4/
IPv6 multicast protocols such as Protocol
Independent Multicast - Sparse Mode (PIMSM), PIM - Dense Mode (PIM-DM), PIM Source Specic Multicast (PIM-SSM), Multicast
Listener Discovery Version 1 (MLDv1)/v2,
Embedded Rendezvous Point (RP), Internet
Group Membership Protocol Version 3
(IGMPv3), multicast Call Admission Control
(CAC), and IGMP snooping. The NE80E has
the exibility to carry video services such as
Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services and
satisfy the requirements for multicast services
on networks of any scale.
The NE80E supports carrier-class Wireless
Local Area Network (WLAN) services. With
a built-in Access Controller (AC), the NE80E
can manage Access Points (APs) and perform
carrier-class authentication and accounting on
users that log in through WLAN. This greatly
enriches the variety of wireless service delivery
modes available to operators, reduces the
cost of operating wireless services, and helps
operators improve the quality of services. This
makes WLAN an important supplement to
2G/3G network access modes.

The NE80E also provides enhanced Network

Address Translation (NAT), including Port
Address Translation (PAT), NoPAT, internal
server NAT, NAT Application Level Gateway
(ALG), destination address translation of
service packets, and NAT E-Log.
Enhanced Video Functions
The NE80E has a built-in video caching
function, providing users with a smooth IPTV
user experience. With the Versatile Service
Unit (VSU-10), the NE80E caches the most
important I-frames within the video frames,
and reduces switchover time between High
Denition Television (HDTV) channels to less
than 0.5 second. Retransmission (RET) ensures
smooth playing of programs even in the case
of 10% packet loss. With video caching, the
NE80E can save bandwidth resources and
reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) over
the entire network. Working with the NMS,
inline Real-time Stream Monitoring (iRSM) can
provide real-time video monitoring for fast,
accurate fault location.
Well-designed QoS Mechanism
The NE80E provides high-quality QoS. With
an advanced queue scheduling algorithm and
congestion control algorithm, the NE80E can
carry out accurate multi-level scheduling for
data ows. This meets the quality needs of
users and the differing quality requirements of
different levels of services.
The NE80E provides a comprehensive QoS
scheduling mechanism and supports the
following functions to ensure QoS:
Five-level Hierarchical QoS (HQoS) access
side scheduling to satisfy the access needs
of different levels of users for differentiated
and diversied services
MPLS HQoS for the network side to support
QoS deployment on the network side and
QoS for MPLS VPN, Virtual Leased Line (VLL),
and Pseudo Wire Emulation Edge to Edge
(PWE3)
TE-based MPLS DiffServ Aware (DS)-TE
to combine the use of MPLS TE and the
DiffServ model
Eight class types (CTs)

Future-Oriented IPv6-Compatible Solutions
