1-19-16
Nasa sent its first probe to the Planet Pluto! It had some weather delays and was
postponed after having to wait a couple days but they sent it off. The mission cost 700
million dollars and so far the probe is in good shape. I found this article to be very
interesting and its cool to see what Nasa is doing to find more about the planet Pluto.

1-23-16
Scott Kelly an Astronaut saw a blizzard happening in the US on the East Coast from the
International Space Station. He tweeted it out on January 23rd and there is some picture
evidence that is pretty cool! First off I had no idea that you could Tweet out in space and
the storm mustve been pretty massive to see from where he was at! Interesting for sure...

1-31-16
This article is just talking about how its the anniversary of a chimpanzee, Luna 9, and the
first golfer sent to the moon all happened January 31st. I found this article rather boring
and wondered how boring the writers day must have been to write this article.
4. http://www.space.com/28486-spacex-rocket-landing-dscovr-launch-webcast.html
2-8-16
The Private spaceflight company SpaceX attempted to launch a space weather
observatory into space as well as land an ambiguous rocket on a floating platform in the
Atlantic Ocean. The rocket coming home cost them $340 Million and to send the weather
observatory will cost them around $140 million for two years to run it. That is insane to
me how much money is put towards these missions.
5. http://www.space.com/28561-ghost-supermoon-hiding-this-month.html
2-14-16
On Feb. 19, the moon will be at its closest point to Earth in orbit, but unfortunately the
"supermoon" will be too close to the sun to be visible to us people on the ground. The
moon will arrive at an extreme perigee (the closest point to Earth) on Feb. 19. At 2 a.m,
the moon will be 221,826 miles from Earth. This will cause stronger tides and they will
be higher and lower than usual. I thought this was very cool to know and actually got to
see the moon this night.

The International Space Station Year In Space Mission is drawing to a close as NASA
and astronaut Scott Kelly and cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko of the Russian space agency
Roscosmos plan for their return to Earth. During their record-setting mission, Marshalls
Payload Operations Integration Center worked around the clock to help them complete
almost 400 investigations. Kelly and Kornienko participated in a number of studies to
provide new insights into how the human body adjusts to weightlessness, isolation,
radiation and the stress of long-duration spaceflight. Long article thought it was neat.
7. http://www.space.com/32060-julian-gregorian-calendar-leap-day.html

2-29-16
This article is talking about the history of leap year and why we have it, how many days
in a year there used to be and why we have as many days as we do now and the reasoning
why we have leap year. My favorite part was 2000 was a leap year but 1700,1800,1900
were not. It talks about the Juilian calendar but I really couldnt figure out all the
meanings and it was a rather confusing article.
8. http://www.space.com/32172-brightest-planets-march-2016.html
3-7-16
Mars, Jupiter and Satrun will be dominating the March sky and be very bright. Jupiter
will be increasing its speed towards earth and will actually increase in brightness which I
found to be very interesting and cool! It has all the calendar dates as to when you can see
each planet and how and where to look in the night sky to find these luminous planets for
the month of march! I thought this was awesome and very interesting considering they
can predict when and where you can see things in space.
9. http://www.space.com/32184-total-solar-eclipse-2016-what-to-expect.html
3-8-16
On March 8 the moon will pass in front of the sun, causing the first and only total solar
eclipse of 2016. For skywatchers around the world, here's how to see the eclipse and what
to expect the eclipse will be visible across Indonesia, from the islands of Sumatra,
Borneo, Sulawesi and Halmahera. A partial eclipse will be visible over southern and
eastern Asia, northern and western Australia, and Hawaii. Skywatchers in the rest of the
world can watch the eclipse live in a webcast hosted by the Slooh Community
Observatory.Thought this was an awesome and interesting article and find it cool
scientists can predict these events.

3-15-16
The launch sent the Trace Gas Orbiter and Schiaparelli landing demonstrator on a
seven-month journey to Mars. Upon arrival, TGO will begin searching the Martian air for
methane (a possible sign of life) from orbit, while Schiaparelli will descend to the surface,
to test out landing technologies for the second part of ExoMars which is a life-hunting
rover that's slated to blast off in 2018

11. http://www.space.com/32345-double-comet-flybys-of-earth-march-2016-images.html
3-23-16
A pair of comets zoomed past Earth over the past few days, and their historic one-two
flyby punch was caught on video! A telescope in Chile operated by the Slooh Community
Observatory captured video of the comets 252P/LINEAR and 2016 BA14 as they cruised
past Earth on Monday and Tuesday. 252P/LINEAR came within 3.5 million miles of the
planet, and 2016 BA14 got even closer, about 2.1 million miles, or nine times the Earthmoon distance. According to Slooh representatives. Only one comet in recorded history
has come closer to Earth than 2016 BA14! Pretty interesting news to hear about kind of
scary!
12. http://www.space.com/32430-russia-launches-progress63p-supply-ship.html
3-31-16

An unmanned Russian cargo ship packed with 3 tons of supplies launched toward
the International Space Station Thursday March 31, beginning a two-day orbital delivery
flight. The Progress 63P spaceship is the third vehicle to launch to the space station in the
past three weeks, and the second cargo craft to launch there in nine days. The ship's cargo
includes 1,940 lbs. of propellant, 110 lbs. of oxygen, 926 lbs. of water and 3,161 lbs. of
dry cargo, NASA officials said. That to me seems like a ton of weight and a pretty hard
job to do, I found this pretty cool.
13. http://www.space.com/32458-brightest-planets-april-2016-viewing-guide.html
4-4-16
This article is talking about the brightest planets that you can see in April, when you can
see them, where to look, and even how to find them! Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, and Mars
are predicted to be super bright and easy to find! I think its cool cause most of the ones
that can be found this month are inner planets.
14. http://www.space.com/32537-stephen-hawking-starshot-space-exploration.html
4-12-16
On April 12 Stephen Hawking and investor Yuri Milner have unveiled Breakthrough
Starshot, an audacious $100 million research initative to develop technology for small,
unmanned interstellar probes that could reach Alpha Centauri within 20 years of their
launch.
15. http://www.space.com/32599-green-moon-april-lunar-hoax-debunked.html
4-18-16
This article talks about the moon and Mars and how a viral picture showed the Moon
green on 4/20 (National smoke Marijuana day). It talks about a viral rumor that Mars will
be able to be seen as big as the Moon in the night sky and that there are rumors of Earth
having a lesser gravity because of Mars being so close to us and they prove that wrong
and put the rumors to rest. Funny article how they wrote about 4/20 and the moon turning
green.
16. http://www.space.com/32659-smallest-full-moon-2016-slooh-webcast-tonight.html
4-21-16
The smallest full moon of 2016 will light up the night sky and Slooh has made it so you
can get a sneak preview of the lunar event in a free webcast from the
Slooh community observatory on April 21. The full moon of April, which is traditionally
known as the Full Pink Moon or Pink Full Moon, actually occurs on Friday night (April
22). This year, April's full moon will be the smallest of the year because the moon will be
at the farthest point from Earth in its elliptical orbit. Slooh representatives have dubbed
the event a "mini-moon" and will showcase on their website. I actually watched the
webcam and it was pretty sweet!
