Objective:

Provide care up to 6-10 patients per shift within a 19-bed Medical-Surgical
Unit.
Perform thorough patient assessments including neurological, cardiovascular,
respiratory, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, musculoskeletal, IV site/line,
central lines, surgical/trauma wounds, urinary catheters, ostomies, Gtubes,
chest tubes, and drains.
Diagnose acute and chronic conditions that could result in rapid physiological
deterioration or life-threatening instability.
Order, perform, or interpret the results of diagnostic tests and screening
procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
Administer oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous medications, blood
transfusions, and intravenous infusions, monitoring patients for adverse
reactions.

Document data related to patients care including assessment findings,


physical/psychosocial responses to nursing interventions, medications, and
progress towards problem solving using critical thinking skills.
Educate patients and their family members regarding disease process,
medications, special treatments, and self-care by alleviating concerns and
gaining trust.
Encourage patients to be active participants in their recovery.
Plan patient discharges from hospital and if required liaising with social
workers and case managers.
Specialize in the care of older adults suffering from cognitive debilities.
