(179) Its hard not to envy such people.

How do they do it? Why arent they bothered
or distraught by the strains and ordeals of
everyday life, like most of us?

There is a seen in the movie Ice Age: Dawn

of the Dinosaurs where to weasels tell their
secret to happiness. They say they are happy
because they are very stupid. Does this mean
that the smarter you are the less happy you
are? Or perhaps the smarter you are the
harder it is for you to single out what to worry
about.

(182)Today Shannon is active and she is

pleased with her academic achievements
but she feels that she cant truly enjoy them
because she is lacking in self-confidence.

In the happiness paper that I wrote I used one

of my key points to describe security. Being
insecure drives out confidence and
confidence, to me, is one key factor of being
happy.

(183)
7(very happy person)
6 (more happy than my friends but they are
generally pretty happy)
7 (a great deal, up until recently I havent
ever been stressed in my entire life) ((to an
extent))
5(at some points in my life I need time to
myself but usually I am still joyful and
happy)

25/4= 6.25
Happiness score is 6.25

(185)Happiness is something we must find

This quote is talking about the most common

myth among happiness. And I agree with it
completely. Happiness is a journey and not a
destination. Happiness is a state of mind.

(186) I thought you either have it or you

dont This notion that we are born happy
or unhappy is ubiquitous.

I like this thought process about happiness. I

generally consider myself a very happy time
but there have been periods of depression
and utter sadness. Usually its just a chemical
imbalance and a good sleep will help me
clear my head and help me become happy
again but its an odd thought to think that
some people cannot help but not be happy. I
have read articles about depression and the
medication is effective and their sadness
(lack of happiness) is not their fault at all.

(190) But just because your happiness set

point cannot be changed doesnt mean that
your happiness level cannot be changed.

This quote confuses me.

(194) Happiness consists in activity. It is a

running stream, not a stagnant pool.

This quote seems to be wrong because we

read about Shannon who was very active and
she did not find herself happy.

How could this point be possibly right?

o Perhaps this quote is right when they think that they need to keep moving
forward and accept things. If someone is to stay held up on a specific thought
they could convert anything into a negative situation and get into an emotional
rut.
What is interesting or helpful about this view?
o This view is very positive and forces us to keep looking toward new moments in
our life
What would I notice if I believed this view?
o If I believed this view I would notive that I would be able to move on from hard
times in my life quicker. I would find other things to think about and in a sense,
ignore that bad things in my life until they are replaced by good things.
In what sense and under what conditions could this be true?

This sense can be true in forgiveness and acceptance. When someone forgive
someone who wronged them they are supposed to forget what happened but
that is usually not the case. But it could be.
