you make, based on your selected work of art. This appropriation can be in the form of
fine art, to advertise a particular product or event, to make a political statement, or to
make someone laugh, etc. Computer generated images are fine and encouraged for this
section of Component 10.

2. Include in your Artwork Resource for Teaching any appropriations of your selected
artwork, or of any other artwork, that you are able to locate in fine art or in popular

Create a bullet list of five-seven ideas for how you might appropriate ideas from this work of art into an artmaking

activity. These activity ideas should be described briefly and make a clear visual reference, thematic, or conceptual connection
to the central work of art.

Create a portrait by drawing the one half of the face included in The Persistence of Memory painting
and drawing your own half of the other side of the face in any way you choose, based on how you

interpret the meaning of the painting.

Draw and cut out three melting clocks using three large sheets of paper (around 18 x 24). Hang or
drape these clocks over objects of your choice, similar to the setup of The Persistence of Memory

painting, and take a photo of your setup.

Create your own version of The Persistence of Memory painting, including elements such as the
melting clocks and the face, but place them in a dreamlike setting or background that you have

dreamt of or made up.

Use The Persistence of Memory painting image as a basis to create an advertisement poster for a
company or service that you make up (for example, a restaurant, a furniture company, a watch
company, etc.). Give your company or service a name and a slogan. On a separate sheet of paper,
write a paragraph about how your companys name and slogan relate to the painting.

Give The Persistence of Memory a new title, The Persistence of ___________. Recreate The Persistence
of Memory painting, but replace the melting clocks from the original with an object (in melting form)
that relates to your new title.
