My name is Kristen White; I am a graduate of the M.A.T.
program at Towson University
with a concentration in early childhood special education. During the past year, I have completed two internships; one in a self-contained CALS classroom, and one within an inclusive kindergarten classroom. I have been afforded the opportunity to work directly with a range of students who require specially designed instruction. Prior to this experience, I worked with both adults and adolescents with severe cognitive impairments. Upon completion of my bachelors in Psychology in 2009, I obtained a position at Way Station, Inc. in Columbia, MD which is a nonprofit for adults who require intense support to complete everyday tasks. I was a residential rehabilitation facilitator which allowed me to assist over twenty adults with their daily life skills and progress toward short and long-term goals. In 2011, I received a position at Kennedy Krieger Institute on the inpatient Neurobehavioral Unit as a clinical assistant. During this time, I provided direct care to adolescents who were diagnosed with a multitude of disabilities; autism being the most prominent. I assisted with implementing daily living skills, academics, and behavioral protocols. From this experience I found my love for working with children and adolescents with severe disabilities, and decided that I wanted to work in a more academic setting. I am now finishing my masters in Special Education at Towson University. My long-term goal is to open a nature facility that serves as a day care program for children with special needs. Working with this population brings my life joy and purpose.
