Introduction
A. Neil Armstrong once said,"That's one small step for a man, one
giant leap for mankind," (Biography.com) He said this when he first stepped on
the surface of the moon. This quote has a passionate meaning behind it. It says
look what we just did with some metal and gas and imagine what we could do
next. We didn't get there by wishing, hoping, or waiting on someone else to do it.
We did the exact opposite actually. We worked towards achieving that goal. We,
as in, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA for short.
Without their brilliant minds, those words might have been said by someone else
first. According to U.S Infrastructure on Ripetungi.com, at this point in time,
NASA was granted 4.61 percent of the national budget. Today, they receive less
than .5 percent. NASA received a higher percentage of funding in the late 1960s
because NASA itself was in high demand. Nowadays, people are not informed or
concerned about NASA, which explains the drop in government funding.

Transition: Today the need for NASA in the populations eyes are very slim. Americans
are not educated on all the amazing aspects of this administration, if
everyone was, the funding for NASA would be quadrupled.
II. Need

A. To fully establish the importance, you should know about the

things they have invented in everyday life. According to Business insider and
NASA.gov, Nasa has contributed a lot to society. Have you ever known anyone
with cancer? NASA invented the MRI. Or Solar Panels? From those big feats to
the smaller ones such as the computer mouse and water filters. With these
accomplishments, NASA seems underrated.
TRANSITION: Exploration enables science and science enables exploration. -Charles
Frank Bolden (Journey to mars PDF NASA.GOV.)
III. Satisfy
A. How do we get NASA to not be so underrated? Let me just tell
you about the projects they are working on today. We, as in, the human race will
inhabit another planet within the next 20 years. That planet is Mars. Doing so we
are pioneering space. NASA is working with Space Administration's all across the
globe to achieve this. This is important for us because we are building better
relationships with countries around the globe and we are developing the kind of
technology for living in deep space or even terraforming a planet, which can be
nothing but beneficial to life back at home. Along with this is there is another
little project called The E-sail. The sun releases protons and electrons into the
solar wind at very high speeds -- 400 to 750 kilometers per second. The E-Sail
would use these protons to propel the spacecraft. -Bruce Weigmann
(Universetoday.com) NASA Engineer. With advances in nanotechnology we are
able to do this with long electrostatically charged wires that are attached to a
spacecraft that would repel the protons from the sun giving us great speeds.

Making it to the edge of the solar system within 10 years. The last time we sent
anything there it took 35 years. That is about 4.5 billion kilometers, from neptune.
B. To tie back to the original question. Knowledge is how you make
NASA not underrated. Knowing about all the different projects and advances can
make all the difference.
Transition: It is true. Knowledge makes all the difference and it can end up shaping your future.
IV. Visualization
A. Imagine a world when all of the these projects are completed and
we have advances in all sorts of technology from medical advances to new modes
of transport to new ways of saving our own planet from its inevitable demise.
Now imagine a world without NASA, What is solar technology? What are
artificial limbs and even insulin pumps? This administration is a direct line to the
new technology the is made everyday!
Transition: The $850 billion dollar bailout, that sum of money is greater than the entire
50-year running budget of NASA- Neil deGrasse Tyson (gizmodo.com)
V. Take Action
A. Neil makes a good point. After the space race the majority of people stopped
dreaming about the new tomorrow. The first step to increase NASAs funding is to
acknowledge the importance of this administration. This can be done by
informing the general public and making this knowledge well known by all. It is
important for people to be informed because you cant care about something if
you are unaware of it. I truly believe that if people knew about all of the advances
that were made possible by NASA, they would be more than willing to demand
an increase in funding by the government.

B. This doesnt just apply to NASA, this is applicable to everything in life. If you
truly care about something and want to see it succeed, the first step is to inform,
and with enough knowledge, everything else will fall into place.
C. It pays to keep an open mind, but not so open your brains fall out.
