Gordon,Larry."HigherLearningExpertsDisagreeWhetherEarningaCollegeDegreeIsworth
theExpense."LosAngelesTimes.LosAngelesTimes,15Apr.15.Web.15Mar.2016.
Generally, this article talks about the importance of college, and the difference between a
graduate workers and non- graduate student incomes. It shows some studies that have
been done to see the gap between the graduate and the non-graduates. One of the recent
studies in the articles shows that the average graduate students earn 20,300$ more than
high school and diploma graduates. But that does not mean that all the high school
graduates or diploma graduates have lower income because many can start a business and
get rich, because college is not necessary for everyone, however these do not considered
as average. I think that the main point of this article is to show people how college is
valuable, but on the other hand it also tells that college is not the major key to success by
showing the studies that the author brought. Probably the authors purpose in this article is
mainly to let the student have acknowledgement about college, and show them what
successful experts think about it, so the can know their plan for the future whether if it is
going to college or just start working right after high school by giving the an argument
counter between experts. The logic that the author used in this article is very convincing
and reasonable, and one of the logic facts was the statics that were showing the income
for both graduates and none-graduates. I really see this article helpful for my inquiry
writing because it give some statements that support my position about this subject, and

Alyanallah 4
also it gave me an ideas to extend my writing by making argument counter so I can find
the solution for this subject and one of the most helpful point that I found in this article is
the study that shows differences of incomes between gradates and non-graduates which
support my point that college is still valuable. Plus the author, Larry Gordon, was a
higher education writer for the Los Angeles Times and he have covered many issues that
affected colleges and universities around the nation, so that would make the source a
valuable one because it came from an expert.
