and prosperity of Egyptian life as it
was the primary aspect which
turned Egypt from a desert waste
to a lush and fertile land.
The White Nile begins from East
Africa from Lake Victoria, the Blue
Nile begins from Lake Tana from
the north, this river is later joined
by the Atbara River. These two
large river systems create the Nile
River.

The annual flood or inundation of the
Nile River was one of the most important
event in the life of the Egyptian people.

The Black Land:


The land known as
Egypt was called
The Black Land or
Kemet. The reason
was due to the black
silt or mud which
the Nile River
deposited over the
valley every year.

The Red Land:


The deserts were referred to as
the Red Land or Deshret due
to the dominant colour. The
dessert was exploited by
Egyptians for building materials,
minerals and stones. Egyptians
also mined for copper and
turquoise.

ANCIENT EGYPTIAN
GODS
Many of the Ancient Egyptian Gods resembled or

symbolised aspects of the natural environment.


For example, the Nile River, the sun or the silt
which came with the floods.
Some Gods also represented the animals found in
the environment such as the falcon or cobra.
The Egyptian Gods are depicted in many forms,
however their role and concept remains the
same.

RE (RA)
Ra, the sun god, was the
most important diety
throughout Egyptian
history.
King of the Gods.
Creator of life.
He was depicted in many
different forms such as the
following.

Hapi
Hapi was the spirit of the
Nile.
Big belly, wearing a
belt(fisherman), breasts of
a woman.
His role was to nourish and
provide a good flood.

Osiris
Osiris symbolised good energy
and the life giving flood(silt)
Associated with the afterlife
and the transition.
Portrayed with green skin,
pharaoh headpiece and beard,
wrapped legs and feathers on
headpiece.

Seth(Set)
Associated with the desert, wind,
rain, storms and thunder.
Egyptian words for "turmoil",
"confusion", "illness", "storm" and
"rage". He was considered to be
very strong but dangerous, and
strange.
Curved snout, rectangular ears,
head of a donkey/aardvark/jackal?

Anubis
God associated with the
mummification process and the
afterlife.
Canine head (Egyptian golden
wolf/canid) with pointed ears
Ushered souls into the afterlife
and protected them
