My Teaching

Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is based around my
love and passion for children and their
success.

I believe in.

I have come to the frightening conclusion that I

am the decisive element. It is my personal
approach that creates the climate. It is my daily
mood that makes the weather. I possess
tremendous power to make life miserable or
joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument
of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or
heal. In all situations, it is my response that
decides whether a crisis is escalated or deescalated, and a person is humanized or dehumanized. If we treat people as they are, we
make them worse. If we treat people as they
ought to be, we help them become what they are
capable of becoming.

-Providing a safe but fun classroom that

encourages student engagement and
continuous learning. I want children to
see that learning is FUN! I believe that the
classroom climate is set by the teacher;
therefore I keep a positive, upbeat, and
enthusiastic attitude every day. If children
enjoy coming to school every day, they are
going to get more out of it!

Teaching Certification: Pre K-6

-Connecting each lesson to everyday life

so students can apply it to situations they
encounter outside of the classroom. This will
help students develop a deeper
understanding of the material.
-Teaching using a variety of styles in my
lessons to accommodate to each students
needs. I truly believe in the statement
every child learns differently.
-Integrating cooperative learning into the
classroom alongside of independent work.
By working with others, my students will
learn the necessary teamwork skills they
will use the rest of their lives. My classroom
creates a family of learners, working
together.
-Developing a personal relationship with
each child not just so I know their interests
and can teach accordingly, but to show
them that I truly care about them. I also
believe in attending extra-curricular
activities outside of the classroom. Small
gestures like this really make a child feel
special.
-Having high expectations for students. If I
constantly encourage and reassure a
student, they will believe in themselves too.

TEACHING EXPERIENCES:
IN MY CLASSROOM
If a visitor were to stop by and take a look into
my classroom, this is what they would see.

Practicums:

-Continuous encouragement and praise.

-Waterman Elementary; Harrisonburg,

VA. Spring 2014. Kindergarten. Diversity
in the Classroom,10 Hours.

Students will be praised for behavior as well as

effort and accomplishment. Praise will be specific so
students know exactly what behaviors are desired
for successful learning.

-North River Elementary, Augusta

County, VA. Fall 2014. Fifth Grade.
Classroom Management, 20 hours.

-Whole Brain Teaching

Whole brain teaching is a method I employ to keep
my classroom actively engaged. Humor and games
are used to increase the number of times students
repeat core information and practice basic skills. My
class is highly structured and very organized
because students have fun following the rules.

-Cooperative Learning.
Cooperative learning groups are utilized in my
classroom to maximize student growth. By having
students work in heterogeneous groups, classroom
and community are strengthened.

-Mountain View Elementary School,

Rockingham County, VA. Fall 2014. First
Grade. Early Literacy- Book Buddies
Program.
-Elkton Elementary School, Rockingham
County, VA. January 2015. Kindergarten.
90+ Hours.
-Churchville Elementary School, Augusta
County, VA. Fall 2015. Fourth Grade.
Curriculum and Instruction, 50+ Hours.

-Variety of teaching/learning styles.

In my classroom, I incorporate activities that appeal
to every type of learner; Visual, Auditory, and
Kinesthetic. By integrating a variety of approaches, I
am accommodating and connecting content to the
students through their preferred learning style.

- Churchville Elementary School, Augusta

-Technology.

County, VA. Spring 2016. Fourth Grade.

17 weeks.

There are SO many awesome technology resources

and tools to use in the classroom. Technology is a
great way for students to stay engaged in a lesson
as well as apply what they are learning through a
variety of activities. Some technology found in my
classroom includes SMARTBoards, iPads, computers,
Chromebooks, etc.

-Laughter and Smiles.

Relationships matter. Students whose basic needs
are met in a warm and nurturing environment are
better learners. In my room, that is what you will
see on a daily basis. As stated earlier, I want
students to believe that learning is fun. By
participating in fun lessons, students will stay
engaged which promotes learning. If they enjoy the
lesson, they will get more out of it.
