Poverty Assignment
Meagerness

How I set the criteria for a family a four for a month, husband, wife, eight
year old daughter, and a three year old son.
Housing: I looked on various rental cites for a three bedroom condo. I choose a
condo because both the husband and wife work and I believe they wont have time to
mow a lawn. I hope the family will eventually buy a home but the cost of living will
go up because they may have to pay for up keep on the outside of the home.
Food: For food I went on an USDA.GOV. Site they have an expense sheet four a
family of four.
Clothing: For clothing same USDS.GOV. And expense sheet.
Insurance: For insurance took into consideration on how much we pay for
insurance and also used State Farm cite for estimations.
Medical Expenses: We are a family of three looked at are cost and adjusted for one
more to come up with the cost for a family of four.

Child Care: For child care cost found a site University of Utah has that breaks
down by age I have that web site listed below.
Transportation: For transportation used AAA and Utah DMV and personal info
that we use to pay for taxes, gas, etc. to come up with the total cost.
Charity: I used ten per cent of gross income to come up with a number.
Durables: My husband works for RCWilley he has sold furniture, electronics, and
has been involved in finances with them we set a monthly payment at about 166.62
conversely.
Personal: How we choose for personal we tried to include for movies, gifts for
parties, and education like violin lessons for the oldest. Oh yes we found personal
hygiene on an IRS cite.
Miscellaneous: Used the IRS cite for four.
Reflection on the Process

This assignment had me

scrambling for information I
used what I believe to be
credible sites for my budgeting monthly sheet it had me thinking about how we live.

I think my family of three might be living on the border of poverty according to the
information I have gathered. We dont take a lot of trips or eat out much we go to the
dollar movies from what I can see we have been very fortunate so far. If you want to
talk poverty my family in Venezuela still has to hall water to their house stand in
line for a small amount of rice and beans and cant even get the cornmeal they call
P.A.N. to make arepas the a staple they like to eat daily. In this country there
should be no reason for people not to have a meal or a place to live. It amazes me
that there is poverty in such a country as the United State of America. With the
information I gathered I guess anything below 85,000.00 would start to put the
family in a hardship and tilt it towards poverty. I dont believe our Federal
government has a clue. For a family of four $ 24,300 is their idea I think they would
be homeless.

To sum up I believe the husband and wife should make a minimum

100,000.00 because I think we left out things like savings for the family. Our total
for annually gross income 84,672.00
