Essential Question: How do youth groups and student ministries impact students.
Working Thesis: Student ministries and youth groups help guide students down the right path.
Refined Thesis: Students who are in youth groups or ministries are able to express themselves, to
help relieve stress and to get their mentors to assist them in making the right decisions.

The article Ministry Supports Stressed Students discusses how many students have
anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. Graduates, as well as, undergraduates need guidance in
traveling down the right path and making the right decisions. These students need face to face
initiation, instead of technology, in which the world has become all, but overtaken by. Ministry
helps the students understand personal dignity, how students themselves were created in God's
image, and each and every one of them should have self-respect, as well as, respect for others.
Park (Head of Hayward Campus) has created what she calls student families, which are
completely lead student ministries, that help students relax, as well as, helping each other
educate themselves on the academics and gospel. This school and ministry have helped many
students greatly. This supports my thesis by providing information about student lead ministries
helping relieve students from depression or other forms of melancholy, leading them to better
futures.

The article Teenagers Matter: Making Student Ministry A Priority In The Church is
focused on helping students receive ministry though the church. Cannister explains that most
churches believe that only twenty percent of the students receiving ministry is good enough,
and it should change from good enough to comprehensive. Cannister wants to receive the
same attention as adults, and give the students the five primary purposes of the church:
Worship, ministry, evangelism, fellowship, and discipleship. She wants the student ministry to
be aligned with the five purposes, so that students can receive the fullest and greatest amount of
ministry. Cannister believes that, if students would receive the five purposes to their full then,
undergraduates would be lead down the right path, as well as being noticed in the church,
showing them that all teenagers matter. This will help them learn about the gospel and be treated
as an adult. The article supports my thesis by explaining that student ministry can help students
learn how to act like an adult, as well as, being treated as one, and helping them fulfill their full
potential.

In the article The Effect Of Spirituality And Campus Ministry On Academic

Accomplishment In College Students was an experiment that tested the effects of student
ministry on high school graduates who are attending college. Many experiments have dealt with
this issue resulting in similar results. Some have recorded that students with a higher degree of
religiousness can be correlated with a higher GPA. As well as, a better sense of surroundings,
which can help students become more familiar with their new surrounding or their new college
campus, with faster and higher academic achievement. One study, held by Keller (2001), that had
about four hundred and fifty families, resulted in higher academic success. This article supports
my thesis by showing students who have student ministry are more likely to make better
decisions and achieve high success in school.
