Materials Needed for Lesson/Technology to be Used:
MacBook Cart (17)
Verb sentence planning sheet
Website: mystorybook.com
Apple TV, projector, screen
Procedure:

First, I will ask students to get out their verb note taking paper that is in their
notebook that they will need to help them create their story. Once they have
their verb sheet, they can carefully get a MacBook off of the cart and login at
their desk. Instruct students to login in and then sit quietly. Once all students
are logged into the MacBook laptops, I will direct them to open Safari and
type in www.mystorybook.com. Once students are to the website, they
should click on Create a storybook and then remove hands from laptop.
They should then raise their hand so that I can login and bring up their
storybook draft. After making sure that all students have been logged into
mystorybook.com and have access to their storybooks, I will discuss how I
will be reviewing how to use this program and their hands should remain off
of the laptop unless told to touch it. We will use hands off as our signal to
remove hands from the MacBook immediately, and practice this a few times
if needed. Then, I will begin reviewing the website while the students remain
in hands off position.
I will first remind them how to add a textbox and type it in on the first page,
and create an example title page for them to see. I will also remind students
how to change the location and size of their text in the textboxes so that
they can arrange them how they would like. Students will then quietly work
on their own title page, and should raise their hand when finished so that a
teacher can check it. Once all students have satisfactory title pages, I will
show them how to create another page in their book, where they will then be
instructed to create three pages with one sentence on each. They will use
their verb sentence-planning sheet and use one sentence that has a present
tense verb, past tense verb, and future tense verb. Altogether, students
should have four pages in their book: title page, past tense page, present
tense page, and future tense page. When they are finished with each page,
they should raise their hand to have it approved by the teacher before
starting the next page. They should have used verbs from their planning
sheet.
Once all students are finished writing their sentences and they have been
approved by a teacher, I will then introduce the drawing, scene, and items
features of this website while students are in hands off position. They will
then be allowed to go back and add in scenes, drawings, and items to their
pages that SUPPORT their story. Instruct students that their details that they
add to each page MUST support their story or they will have to erase it and
not be able to add any others. Also encourage them to make their pages look
as neat as possible, as if their book was going to be published and other
people would read it. The teachers should walk around and assist students as
needed. I chose to save the introduction of all of these features until after
the students wrote their sentences so that they wouldnt be horsing around
and those would not distract them when typing their sentences.
When students are completely finished with their book, they should raise
their hand so that I can assist them in saving their books successfully. Once
the students book has been saved, they will be instructed to log out of the

MacBook and carefully place it back onto the cart. The students will share
their creations with the rest of the class at a later date, where they will read
each sentence and talk about the picture, background, etc. that they chose
for each page.
Assessments:
I will assess students both informally and formally in this lesson. I will assess
them informally while facilitating the lesson, checking student work, etc.
Students will be formally assessed through the final product of their book. If
students have correctly typed their sentences using correct verb tense,
punctuation, capitalization, etc., I will know that they met the objectives of
this lesson. I will know that students did not fully meet the objectives of this
lesson if they required several redirections, correction of work, etc.
The following rubric will be used to grade the students final book product:
(Students will receive a copy of the rubric with feedback and their final
grade.)
