Provincial Scout Jamboree

February 12, 2016

To our distinguished visitors, honorable guests, and to all

scouts and scouters and everyone allow me to greet each one of you
here today for the opening of the 14th Provincial Boys Scout
Jamboree here in the Municipality of Alangalang, Leyte especially
the young and spirited Boys Scouts and the hardworking and
dedicated Scouters of the Province of Leyte.
Im quite sure that each one of us here today in this Provincial
Jamboree all had our share of scouting experiences. It is because
scouting is a part of our education. We join Scouting not only
because it is mandated by the curriculum but because there is fun
and learning in it. We enjoyed the chanting, singing, camping and
meeting new friends in the process. Apart from the lessons we get
from reading books, discussions and recitations, scouting offers
more to the meaning of learning. Robert Powell said, In scouting, a
boy is encouraged to educate himself instead of being instructed.
In other words we learn by doing- A firsthand learning approach, an
alternative learning process.
Scouting is a molding area for responsible leaders. In our
society today, we need leaders, responsible leaders who will steer
our country towards development and progress. This kind of event
motivates you, the young boys and girls of our country, to become
men and women- fully capable human beings able to live fruitful
lives with others, and to contribute to the improvement of the
family, the community, and the nation.
So in behalf of the BSP Leyte council let me take this
opportunity to thank the LGU of Alangalang Leyte headed by Mayor
Entong Yu for hosting this event and to all of you for the support
you have given.
And may the Lord continue to bless and guide use in our
unified and concert effort of strengthening and promoting heroism,
camaraderie, cooperation and hope among the youth of the nation.
