This week we are

building classroom
community
through various
forms of instruction
and practices.

Classroom News
Building a classroom community is very important in my
classroom. This week, we will be focusing on enhancing
classroom community through writing instruction.
The first thing we will be creating is a writing journal. The
students are going to bring or draw pictures to decorate their
own journal. Writing journals are beneficial for the students to
develop their sense of voice. At the end of the week, each
student will sit in the authors chair and share a story they have
written.
I am focusing on teaching the students the importance of being
respectful to classmates during sharing. Therefore, we will be
creating rules together as a class on how we should act while
another friend is talking/reading.
I am very excited to build this community of learners. I
encourage you to reach out to me anytime and help me continue
to build this relationship throughout the year. Here is a list of
books that I suggest reading with your child to help them
embrace their individuality.

Bring artifacts from home that

Literacy Tip: Students are to take their writing journals home with them every night.
Encourage them to write about their day or favorite moments.
