Im Hating It
McDonalds has always been the Americas favorite fast food restaurant,
established May 19th 1940, Ray Kroc founded McDonalds as McDonalds System,
Inc., a predecessor of the McDonalds Corporation, and six years later bought the
exclusive rights to the McDonalds name. McDonalds now has flourished and is
established in 119 countries today. Famous for its Big Mac burger, golden French
fries, and for feeding about 68 million people daily. It is a popular booming business
in the food industry. Its menu now adorned with many different items it provides a
consumer a bit of a variety for when choosing a meal.
Many people questioned how healthy this food is, many of those employed
wonder how ethical are the practices of this establishment, many business wonder if
they can even compete with such a business that seems to be infinite. Is McDonalds
a template for the future of the restaurant business? Or is it really everything that
should be avoided completely?

(1st Perspective) Consumer

Consumers go to the place due to the fact that the prices are fairly low, and
there is a bit a variety. But there have also been complaints about if the food at
McDonalds is safe for people to eat. Concerned for not only the health of their
selves, but for their children as well. Some people have no only done experiments

but have also tested the food to see what is in it, and what it does to those who
indulge in this treat.
One woman named Karen Hanrahan has kept a McDonalds burger since
1996. She claims that it looks very well preserved, as if it were bought yesterday.
Claiming that the preservatives in the food are meant to keep it fresh looking not
fresh. McDonalds golden fries were also revealed to made with up to 14
ingredients one of them called: dimethylpolysiloxane - a form of silicone found in
Silly Putty. Not only that, back in November, 2007 a mother found a chickens whole
head in her childs meal; naturally the restaurant tried offering her free meals, but
she refused, and sued for $100,000 dollars the story was reported on ABC new. To
finally top it off the documentary, Super-Size Me shows what happens to a person
who eats fast food on a normal basis (this film takes it to the extreme, and he eats
the meals for all three meals for a month straight.)

(2nd Perspective) Employees

Employees working at McDonalds, of course must go through the hardship of
working at one of the most popular fast food places in the world. Not only is the
restaurant open twenty-four hours a day, but it is even open on major holidays.
Not only is that extensive but it also shows how much of profit driven
company McDonalds really is. Employees, in 19 cities have filed complaints against
McDonalds due to them not being provided with personal protective equipment, and
also that the managers at these establishments managers would tell their
employees to treat their burns with mustard rather than burn cream, not giving
them proper first aid where it was needed. Not only are people hurt by burns, 67

percent are injured via cuts, another 34 percent by lifting heavy objects, and some
29 percent have had slip and fall occurrences as well. Not only do McDonalds
employees feel unsafe, but they feel underpaid for the work they do, some of the
franchises in the company have currently raised their wages up to nine dollars to
ten dollars an hour of work, but not all of the franchises have done so yet; Justin
Johnson from Saint Louis (an employee making $7.60 an hour) commented on the
situation saying: Is this an April Fools Day joke? After two years of campaigning,
McDonalds raises wages for less than 10 percent of their workers and only 10
percent of the way toward a living wage?, this provided via the New York Times;
this being one of many complaints about the companys wages and how unfair it
seems to be in such a company.

(3rd Perspective) Competition

Other restaurants will always be competition for McDonald, no matter what kind of
establishment they will always be at war to win more customers with the
juggernaut. Trying to compete with low priced food has always been a challenge for
restaurants.
Some McDonalds competitors have taken stabs in order to sway people over
to their restaurants instead. Taco Bell did a series of commercials in where men
named Ronald McDonald came in and were eating Taco Bells new breakfast menu,
and saying of course: I am Ronald McDonald. Although some competitors were a
bit more playful, some were serious against McDonalds, filing complaints, Januray
12th 2016, in Europe a group of Italian consumers organizations accused of the
company of forcing franchisees to pay high excessive rents and fees. Although

McDonalds replied with: We are proud of our franchisees and are committed to
working closely together so that they have the support they need to operate their
restaurants and their businesses. This approach, with the principle of sharing risk
and reward, has been successful for many years and has helped create the best
business opportunities for our franchisees and the best overall experience for our
customers. The complaint is backed by the Bakers Food, and the Allied Workers
union due to: McDonalds abuse of its dominant marking position hurting
everyone.

Concluding Statement
Personally Ive never really cared for McDonalds, Ive eaten there only for
convenience, (for long road trips, or if I am rushing to work.) The food there isnt
worth what I pay for it, nor is it as healthy as it could be. I know for when I have kids
Ill avoid the place like the plague. But this establishment pretty much sums up how
the business world can be, aesthetically appealing to the eye, but full of deceit. As I
read new articles about what was in the food, it made my cringe and sick to a point.
I was pretty upset about the fact that they could legally sell people sludge and call it
food. I actually ate at McDonalds, and their nuggets made my stomach hurt to an
extreme which made me run for the restroom, (trying to win the Monopoly, I ate
there for lunch two days in a row, and regret it.) I also read on how it treated its
workers and felt extremely bad for them, those work conditions are just not
something that as one of the best countries in the world should have to deal with.
Minor first aid, training should be a given at any job, but it outraged me that they
didnt even have them at times! Then reading on to how the pay varied from place

to place was the finishing touch. I refuse to go to McDonalds from now on, and Im
probably going to try avoid supporting food chains like it. Id personally encourage
anyone either going to restaurant chains where you order off a laminated menu, or
a mom and pop kind of deal where there are maybe one or two stores. But that of
course may never always be an option, but if a person must go to the place, you
have been warned.
