Appendix 1 Expert interview and questionnaire results

What do you think are the main areas of weakness for our foundation
year students? (Perhaps in Appendix)

A lack of academic culture awareness.


Research, work ethics, plagiarism, reading and writing.

A lack of ideas and self-expression.


Very often students use others ideas and thoughts without much of

their own.

They do not fully understand that art is also about research and evaluating
ones work.
They have to read many sources, but usually find this too difficult.
They do not organise their research and thoughts well, typically translate
phrases which sound strange in English, do not see the importance of
referencing peoples work and have general grammar and vocabulary
issues.
