Dear Members of the Search Committee:
I am writing in interest for the Psychology Adjunct Assistant Professor position available
in your district as posted on the Los Rios Human Resources website. I currently have 18 units
toward my doctorate in Psychology. In addition, I hold a masters degree in Counseling
Psychology from Argosy University in which I graduated in the top 5% of my class. My
bachelors degree is in Psychology from California State University, Sacramento. . I am
particularly interested in this position in your district as my commitment to the success of
undergraduate education at the community college, my interest in psychology and years of
experience working within the community make me a fitting candidate for this position.
I have three plus years of counseling experience as a Marriage and Family Therapist
Intern/Trainee in a range of environments that worked with a diverse group of clients including
the LGBTQIA community. I have had the opportunity to teach my counseling clients
communication skills, healthy coping tools, stress management, anger management and selfhypnosis. I have administered psychological tests and provided social work services as well as
doing administrative duties. I have also taught a multitude of subjects to a wide variety of age
groups in different settings since 1997. I am also skilled with the latest technology being used in
the classroom.
I am currently working toward completion of a Certificate in Community College Faculty
Preparation through the College of Continuing Education at California State University,
Sacramento (completion in December of 2016). This program provides participants a thorough
understanding of the history and role of the community college along with the pedagogical skills
to effectively facilitate adult learning. Further, the coursework and mentored teaching experience
enhance the technical competencies necessary for todays educator at the community college.
Through this certificate program, I have gained a new appreciation for the role, goals and
challenges faced by our community colleges and their faculty.
I have read the mission statement of the Los Rios Community College District and I am
confident that my teaching philosophy and beliefs fit well with what the mission portrays. I have
