Competency: L-2 Pediatric Care and Interventions

Subcategory: L-2-1 Demonstrate knowledge and ability to
adapt nursing assessment, care, health teaching and coaching in care
of pediatric client
My learning experience in this course is that a practical nurse
play an important nursing professional role in promoting and
maintaining the health of the pediatric clients and their family by
using nursing metaparadigm and related theories. In this course, I
demonstrated my knowledge about pediatric nursing by reading
textbook, attending to the class and writing my exams and obtaining a
good grade.

The significance of learning in pediatric nursing, the previous

nursing knowledge and related theories assist me in adapting nursing
care for pediatric clients and their families through the use of nursing
metaparadigm, and nursing process. The theoretical concepts
introduced me how to assess the pediatric client related to growth and
development. In addition, effective therapeutic communication with
children and their families is critical to the nursing care because
communicating with children can be more difficult than
communicating with adult. So good verbal communication skills are
necessary for nursing assessment and teaching, and it is necessary to
use of age-appropriate methods to communicate with children.
This competency is very meaningful because as a practical
nurse who responsible for my clients safety in all procedures. Caring
for children requires careful assessment and early identification of
children and families at risk. Working with families in different
settings help to ensure the safety and needs of all children. Also,
education is a big part of pediatric nursing care. As a nurse should
help families to be fully informed regarding their childs care.

Good. I rate myself with a good proficiency category

because I believe that I incorporate with my nursing knowledge and
related to theory in my exams and assignment. It allow me to utilize
nursing approach to care and health promote of the children and their
families. This course gave me the opportunity to apply my knowledge
to finish my assignments, which help me in gaining clinical
knowledge and get me where I need to go. As my knowledge grew
with textbook readings and class presentation, I also worked on
research skills by looking at the best teaching strategies and contents
for children and their families.
Throughout the class participation and assignments, I feel I
have grown from my instructor and my classmates. I am a much more
knowledgeable and confident in pediatric teaching by using evidencebased practice. I believe that in this course I acquired basic pediatric
health assessment and nursing care. Also, I able to identify priority
health education needs which physical and psychologically
appropriate for clients. In the future clinical practice, I will continue to
use the same manner which I learned from this course. I will apply my
learning experience by integrating nursing metaparadigm and holistic
care to clients and teaching and supporting their family as well.
