Abstract
Immigration has been a topic talked about for many years. It has made
countries come together and it has made problems inside countries. Most
people in the United States see immigration as a terrible thing, and most of
the people hate immigrants because they think they come to just ruin their
lives. Immigration has made this country, having different cultures and races
in this country its what shaped the United States. In todays president
election of 2016, one of the candidates called Donald Trump wants to create
a barrier between Mexico and the United States. Mr. Trump is mostly focusing
on immigration, but not on every immigrant in this country. He is blaming
everything on the Mexicans, which shows that Mr. Trump is a racist American.
Saying that, how is immigration really affecting the country? Because
according to Mr. Donald Trump Mexicans only come to America to take away
Americans money, to create crime including massacres and rape, and also to
take away their land.

Where is America Headed: Is immigration really the primary problem of the

country.
The runner of the president election of 2016, Mr. Trump thinks that
getting ride of all immigrants, especially Mexicans, will be the solution of all
are problems. The question is, will it really be the solution? Or will it create

Rodriguez 2
more problems? Well according to Mr. Trumps plan to get rid of all Mexicans,
or immigrants in this country and maintaining them out by creating a wall all
across the Unites States and Mexico border. Is immigration really that bad
that the country would stop doing something important in order to get every
single immigrant deported back to their original country. What is it that
immigrants do that is so bad? Is it the crime they commit because in the
article called Immigration, Deportation, and Family Separation it says that
about 150,000 immigrants where deported and didnt have a criminal
history. So if thats not the case then them taking the low wage jobs, which
many American complain about being bad jobs, is the problem right?
Immigrants arent here to bother the American community. Actually they
want to be part of the American community but we keep pushing them away
because we call them criminals and lazy people. This is making our country
look bad because we are a country where racism is something from the past.
Immigration isnt as bad as one thinks it is. The actual bad part is
trying to get rid of it. Although the immigration reform is to solve a problem
it comes with even more problems and that is what I am going to talk about,
I will answer some questions that might make you think twice if going to all
that trouble is really worth solving one small problem. The questions are:
1. How much will it cost to keep the immigrants out of the country?
2. Will USAs economy be affected if immigration reform keeps going?
3. How will immigrant families be affected?
These questions will help my point that immigration is not the
countrys biggest problem. It will show how each question creates
more questions that need to be answered.

How much will it cost to keep the immigrants out of the country?
According to an article called Trumps dubious claim that his bordeer
wall would cost $8 billion written by Glenn Kessler, he says that the price
that Mr. Trump said to create this 2,000 mile long wall will cost $8 billion
dollars. Still we have to take in consideration on how he plans to gather
every single immigrant in the country and how he plans to export them. This
is all just adding up to a big bill that the United States might not be able to
pay, so where does he plan to get this money from to complete his project.
This is only creating more problems than the ones we started with, for
example the border patrols can only do so much. They cant be going around
all the country knocking on every door and checking for every ones papers
just to see if their living illegally or not. If he plans to get the police man to
help then who will be on the streets taking care of the crime that happens on
a day to day biases because its not only the immigrants who create crime in
this country.
Therefore, it surely doesnt look like this I going to cost $8 billion
dollars, and according to the article Trumps dubious claim that his border
wall would cost $8 billion it said that they talked to an economist who
calculated the full amount on how much it would really cost to build the wall
and only the wall he said a wall of this type would cost at least $25 billion
and that is not counting a video system to keep watch on the border.
Building the wall would also require at least 40,000 workers a year for at
least four years, but he doubted it could be built so quickly (Glenn Kessler).

Rodriguez 4
The idea was to keep the immigrants out of the country and this probably will
work in some ways but is all the work and all that money really worth it. Is
immigration really affecting that much the United States, to consider making
a wall that will take years to build and cost a fortune?
Will USAs economy be affected if immigration reform keeps going?
As talked about in the last paragraph the United States will be affected
in the economy, it is expected to put a lot of time and money in part of
Trumps project. But I am focusing on the technology and on the business side
of the problem. According to an article called Ten Ways Immigrants Help
Build and Strengthen Our Economy it says that 30 percent of immigrants are
most likely to start their own business. Making job opening which helps the
economy have more jobs out their lowering the unemployment rate These
small businesses generated more than $776 billion annually, (Jason Furman)
as we can see from the article these businesses put money out in the
economy. From a view of a citizen of the United States, immigration isnt as
bad as its being talked about. Immigration helps the US economy, with
immigrants wanting to come to our country it is just giving more value to the
dollar because immigrants are leaving their countries to migrate to the
United States making their country suffer because the demand of their
currency wont be as high as the US.
It been said that the immigrants are taking Americans job making them
unemployed, but like said previously immigrants create their own businesses
and also they dont take the high paying jobs. Immigrants are taking the low
paying jobs, if the American people would actually take advantage of the
education system that we have, they wouldnt have to be down on their

Rodriguez 5
knees begging for a job that pays $7.25 an hour. Talking about the education
system, in the article Ten Ways Immigrants Help Build and Strengthen Our
Economy written by Jason Furman it says According to the Census Bureau,
despite making up only 16 percent of the resident population holding a
bachelors degree or higher, immigrants represent 33 percent of engineers,
27 percent of mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientist, and 24
percent of physical scientists. Immigrants have helped in the development
of technology that we have in the US today. The article also talks about the
many big companies that were created by immigrants for example Google,
eBay, Yahoo!, and Intel. These are some of the most recognized companies
not only in the US but in the world and thanks to the immigrants they were
created in the USA because they migrated over to our country where they
saw opportunity and exceled when they got here. As we can see immigrants
have helped shaped the country that we know today and thanks to them our
economy is one of the best. As we can see from today the dollar and the
euro are competing on which one has more value and I think this was
possible thanks to all the immigrants that have decide to move from their
countries to ours.
How will immigrant families be affected?
Although losing their jobs is a concern for immigrants that is one of
their least worries. Getting separated from their families it is what really
concerns immigrants. How will they be able to see them? Who will take care
of them? How are they going to make a living by themselves? Those are
some of the questions that might be going through some one who worries

Rodriguez 6
about getting deported. In the article Immigration, Deportation, and Family
Separation written by Vanessa Cecena it says that there are about 5,100
children in foster care due to family deportation and that the numbers are
expected to rise to 15,000 children in about five years. The children arent
kept for long in the foster center first they find out if they have any relatives
that live in the US with paper or legally, if they dont find any relatives the
children is left in a foster care close to the deportation detention center
where their parents are at and might have a risk of getting deported too,
even if they are American citizens.
Its a big process that the parents have to go through if their children
are kept in foster care after the parents have been deported they have to go
through some process in order for reunification to happen. After months, the
parent is deported to Mexico, for example, and CPS is unable to reach the
mother and does not try to contact the Consulate. Once the parent contacts
CPS, they might say that reunification is a possibility, but not until a home
study takes place and once the parent attends parenting classes and finds
employment. The parent then completes the tasks, contacts CPS, but CPS
might still decide to terminate parental rights since they have a federal
deadline (Immigration, Vanessa Cecena). Its bad enough that they already
got deported but now they have to go through some series of task in order to
see their children.
Therefore, we can conclude that families will be affected if the
immigration reform goes on. The statistics were based on event that have
happened where immigrants got caught living in the US without papers.

Rodriguez 7
What will happen when the immigration reform takes place and even more
families are getting separated? It would cause more devastation and more
children kept in foster homes where they have nowhere to go.
Conclusion
At last, this research has answered some question on why immigration
reform can create more problems than just immigration by itself. We could
see that each question created more question because this is just an endless
problem. Although immigration reform might get rid of the problems that the
Americans what out of the country. It just create even more problems in the
economy. Mr. Trump is a person who should stay in his own career and back
off from the political side. He only has one plan and that is to get rid of all the
immigration in this country, but the country has even bigger problems than
just immigration. Donald Trumps plan is meant to make America Great
Again but how is getting rid of one problem and bringing million more
making America great. Where will America be headed if we follow the steps
of racist millionaire who most likely is only looking to put more money in his
bank account.
