Course Goals/Objectives
Besides learning basic math skills, students will learn concepts their grade level peers
are learning in the general education class. The goal is to prepare our students for the
general education math classes, as well as meet goals and objectives stated in their I.E.P.
The following objectives will be covered in class:
-Rewrite expressions involving radicals and rational exponents using the properties of
exponents. (N.RN.2)
-Explain why the sum or product of two rational numbers is rational; that the sum of a
rational number and an irrational number is irrational; and that the product of a nonzero
rational number and an irrational number is irrational. (N.RN.3)
-Interpret expressions that represent a quantity in terms of its context. a. interpret parts
of an expression, such as terms, factors, and coefficients.(A.SSE.3a)
-Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers, namely, they are
closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, and multiplication; add, subtract,
and multiply polynomials. (A.APR.1)
-Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use them to solve problems.
(A.CED.1)
Classroom Rules:
Come to class on time and prepared with materials
Respect others and their property
Listen and follow instructions
Be productive (participation in class and complete class work)
Follow school rules (as stated in the student handbook)
Use of cell phones during instructional time is prohibited unless instructed by the
teacher (use of calculator function only).
Discipline Intervention

Learning Expectations
Assignments/ Homework (40%):
Classroom assignments and homework will be assigned in class. Due dates will be given
for assignments and homework. The teacher will not be responsible for missed
assignments, notes, and homework. The student is responsible to ask for any missed
assignments, notes, homework, and make arrangements with the teacher to do any
make-up assignments.
Quizzes (20%):
Quizzes will be given on information the student has learned in class. The student may
make-up quizzes if he/she is absent by making an arrangement with the teacher.
Tests (20%):
Tests will be given after each chapter or section of similar information. The student will
have to make arrangements with the teacher to retake any test. A test may only be
retaken after the student has submitted corrections on the previous test.
Projects (20%)
Students will be given projects every quarter. Projects will be on concepts they have
learned during the quarter. The project will be due at the end of each quarter.
Information on the project will be given at the beginning or middle of the quarter.
Homework and Make-up work
Homework is due the next meeting date and only sent home to reinforce skills they have
learned in class. Students with excused absences have the opportunity to complete
assignments they have missed in class. Any make-up work given to the student will be
due one week from the day it was issued.
Attendance
Students that accumulate 6 days of unexcused absences will receive no credit for the
semester according to Board Policy 411. Parent notes may be written when a student is
absent and only 6 days are allowed to be excused for one semester. If the student is
absent for 3 consecutive days, a doctors note is needed to excuse the absences. When a
student accumulates 3 unexcused tardies, the student will receive 1 unexcused absence.
Please be informed under Board Policy 330, each student has six consecutive years to
complete graduation requirement beginning with the first year (9th grade). Students who
are unable to complete their graduation requirement may be denied entrance to school
in subsequent years. Permission to return to school may therefore be denied to dropout
students if they would be unable to complete their graduation requirements by the end
of the six-year period.
