FBAO Management for Adult and Child

- Survey the scene
- Are you choking? (Yes)
- Can you cough it out? (If yes, instruct the patient to continue coughing until the
object is out. If no, AMA and introduce yourself) (ask for consent)
- Perform 5 back blows and 5 Heimlich Maneuver (repeat until the object is released/
if the patient becomes unconscious lie the patient on the floor.
- Open Airway maximum head tilt-chin lift
- Object not visible
- Check breathing (- breathing) 10 secs. Look listen and feel
- Give 2 blows (air bounces back)
- Retilt Head
- Give 2 blows (air bounces back)
- Give 5 chest thrust
- Open airway (object not visible)
- Give 2 blows (air bounces back)
- 5 chest thrust
- Open Airway (object visible)
- Finger sweep
- Check breathing and circulation (carotid pulse)
- Secondary survey
- Recovery position
