In this debate democrats Hilary Clinton, Martin OMalley and Bernie Sander talk about
their thought on terror attacks in Paris and other cities and the visions they have for America.
They answer questions on what they thought about on Obamas speech which talked about has
about ISIS in which, each candidate gave their opinion on what they would do in order to stop
the terrorist groups. They argue about the what the United States should do in order to stop ISIS
this includes partnering up with other nations in order to stop ISIS, America cannot stop terrorist
groups by themselves. They talk about the past decisions America has made in order to stop
terrorist but how the decision that were made have not solved the problem such as, when the U.S.
send in troops to Iraq it only caused problems. They conclude with the refuges from Syria and
what they would have done differently in order to help them.
The candidates use ethos, logos and pathos threw out the debate when they are answering
question on ISIS and the things that should be done and when talking about the problem that
were caused trying to stop terrorist.
During the debate Bernie Sander shows ethos when talking about the purpose of his
campaign (3:58-4:43), Im running for President because as I go around this nation I talk to a lot
of people and what I hear is peoples concern that the economy we have is a rigged economy

What my campaign is about is a political revolution millions of people standing up and saying
enough is enough our government belongs to all of us and not just the handful of billionaires
(CBSN, 2015).
Hilary Clinton show logos when talking about the problem in the Middle East and how
complex the Middle East politics can be (16:25-16:42), The dictatorships that have suppressed
peoples aspirations, the increasing globalization without any real safety valve for people to have
a better life. We saw that in Egypt. We saw a dictator overthrown we saw a Muslim brotherhood
president installed and then we saw him ousted and the army back (CBSN, 2015).
Martin OMalley uses pathos after talking about how we lack being able to know when a
terror attack will occur and how difficult it is to make other places around the world a democracy
(20:25-21:16), I was in Burlington, Iowa and mom of a service member of ours who served two
duties in Iraq said, Governor OMalley please when youre with you other candidates and
colleagues on stage please dont use the term boots on the groundMy son is not a pair of boots
on the ground. These are American soldiers and we fail them when we fail to take into account
what happens the day after a dictator falls (CBSN, 2015).
I think this debate about terrorist and what the candidates have said is very effective.
Each candidate showed ethos, pathos, logos in many different ways in all of the question, which
help them enforce their arguments to the audience. The candidates gave detailed and informative
information when asked what their opinion were when referring to the past solutions to stop
terrorist in and how it had effected America today. Overall, I think this debate was good when
addressing the problems of terrorism and seeing all the different solutions each candidate had to
offer and opinion given by each candidate on what show be done to stop terrorism.
