Positive Opening and Observed behavior:
Ms. Raven it is so nice to meet you! My name is Miss
Hancock and I am Jays 2nd grade teacher. First of all I
want to start off by sayingJay is a good student. Jay
loves science and is really good at it. Any type of
science fiction books really interests him and I think
focusing on those topics can really help him stay
engaged and attentive in the classroom. However any
other subjects other than science, Jay is not
particularly motivated. He doesnt seem to enjoy them
and gets frustrated very easily when he gets stuck on
a passage or problem, which can cause outbursts or
disruptions in the classroom.

Plan of Action
Core focus: If we help Jay with his outbursts during
instruction time and find topics that he interested in to
motivate him in school, I think his success will improve
in the classroom. Controlling his outbursts in class can
also help him learn more and be more successful with
his peers as well.

Questions:
What kinds of behavior do you see Jay exhibit
when he doesnt have his way or cant figure out
something at home?
Do you have any ideas of what we could do
together to help him improve his motivation in
the classroom or even at home?

Ideas:
I had a few ideas to help keep him engaged and
excited about learning about other various
subjects in the classroom.
Relate science and science fiction to all subjects-Jay is most interested in this subject and he
seems to already know a lot about different
subject areas related to science. Integrating those
topics into reading, writing and math lessons can
help him stay engaged while learning the other
necessary materials.
I think part of the reason he has outbursts in class
is because he doesnt understand the material
clear enough and he doesnt know how to go
about solving the problem so that is his way of
getting his anger or frustration out.
By providing him with materials that has topics
that interest him, it could help spark something
that he will enjoy more rather than just frustrate
him.
Do you have any ideas you think would be
beneficial to help his outbursts and calm him
down?
Closing:
I want to see Jay succeed this next semester and I feel
like working with topics that interest him will help him
understand and want to understand the information
better. If you have any other ideas, I am more than
willing to work along side you to help Jay be the best
student he can be. Thank you so much for meeting
with me today. I really do appreciate you coming in
and talking with me about how we can help Jay have
a successful second grade year.
