Field Trip to
Work Ticket
Communication
The teacher and designated chaperones will have a Group Me pre-established
before the trip. The teacher will give each chaperone a contact list in their folders prior
to the trip. This will serve as a back up to the Group Me. In this group message the
teacher will update any schedule changes or update chaperones on important information.
If there is any issue the chaperone or teacher could direct message or message in the
group me to notify the adult. The teacher will be in charge of keeping the school
administration up to date of any important information or changes in schedule. The
teacher will also be in charge of communicating with the bus driver about meeting times
and places and any other pertinent information. The meeting place at the field trip
location will be where the bus will pick up and drop off, which will be at the front
entrance of the location.
Management Plan
Every student attending the field trip will be wearing a class shirt (cost is included
in field trip fee). This tee shirt will be a rusty red color. The chaperones and the teachers
will be required to wear a bright blue shirt. The differentiation in shirt colors will make it
easy to spot students as well as adults in charge. Each student will be grouped into teams
of four with a chaperone assigned to each group. The students will learn who is in their
group several days before the field trip. The chaperones will come up with a meeting spot
for the group in case they were to get separated (this will be in additional to the overall
class meeting spot). The day before the field trip and the morning of the teacher will lay
out the field trip rules. The rules are as followed: every student should be respectful to
classmates, chaperones, teachers, and any faculty they come in contact with at the
exhibit. Failure to do so will result in the students sitting out of the field trip activities
with a designated teacher in a designated area. Students should also refrain from using
their cellphones throughout the whole trip. Cellphones will only be permitted during
emergencies. Failure to abide by this rule will result in the student getting their cellphone
confiscated until the end of the day. Students must also practice mature behavior
throughout the field trip. This includes no horse playing, running, pushing, talking back,
talking in an unreasonably high tone in the exhibit or bus. Failure to exhibit mature
behavior will result in that student having to sit out with the designated teacher in the
designated area. The rules for the bus ride are as followed: no eating or drinking on the
bus, keep voice volume at a inside voice, no moving seats (once you have sat down
students will have to stay at that seat), student must thank the bus driver as they get on
and off the bus, there will be no horse play permitted on the bus. If a student fails to
follow one of these rules they will have to sit by a designated teacher on the bus and
possibly at the exhibit (depending on the situation).
Assessment of learning:
Student Learning
The teacher will prepare the students prior to the trip by allowing the students to
explore the field trip locations website on Chromebooks. Students will be able to see
what Burritt On The Mountain offers and hopefully their interest will be sparked for the
field trip. The teacher will conduct a series on minilesson on the history behind the Henry
Burritts Mansion. The students will understand that the mansion was built during the
Great Depression. During the teachers minilesson on Henry Burritt and the significance
of his property the teacher will show pictures and videos to communicate the importance
of the historical site. The students will have a clear understanding of the historical site
when they attend the field trip. The pretest before the field trip will be a K-W-L chart that
students will fill out and explain what they know, want to know, and what then what they
learned (the last part will be filled out after the trip). During the trip the students will be
given a journal to record their thoughts and observations in following the outlined
questions: what did I see, what did I do, what surprised me, what did I love most. After
the field trip, students will reflect on what they learned by answering the following
research questions.
Safety Plan
Prior to the field trip the students will be told that if they are feeling ill or are in
any type of an emergency situation they are to immediately notify a chaperone or teacher.
The adult that is handling the situation is to notify the teacher in charge as soon as they
can. If a student needs medication available the teacher will administer the medication to
the student in a designated location. The teacher will have a first aid kit with her at all
times. If an emergency were to occur the meeting place would be in the front office at the
entrance of the field trip location.
