Federal Dream Act
Should American citizens help undocumented student get an Higher education? Overall
do Americans need to support the Federal Dream Act. In the article The Dream Act Explain by
Moses Palacios, explains that 65,000 students graduate from High school would qualify for the
Dream Act. Undocumented students would be allowed to get in state tuition if they meet the state
eligibility requirement, or they can enter the U.S military. In order to qualify for the Dream Act
undocumented students had to enter the United States before sixteen and have be in the U.S for
five years. They also need to have a High School or equivalent. They have a criteria to follow in
order to become a permanent residents, and it's even a longer process to become citizen. Another
thing Palacios mentions, is that they have to have good conduct throughout the Dream Act
process. Under the Dream Act they are able to apply for federal students and federal work-study
programs as a citizen (Palacios 2). I agree with Palacios on the Federal Dream Act, the Act
wouldnt encourage more undocumented people to enter the United States, also it is a hard
application that limits the amount of students that can become dreamers. Many critics may
believe that it wouldnt help the economy;however it would help the economy a lot. Finally, it
can help many other undocumented people to become citizens that are the dreamer family
members.

People may believe that the Federal Dream Act would promote more undocumented
people to enter the United States. In reality the Federal Dream Act haves a certain requirement
that the applicants of the dream act haves to follow. According to Economist Applicants must
been present in the United States for at least five consecutive years prior to enactment of the bill
(740). This prove that many of the new undocumented parents that wish to give their kids a
better opportunity is not going to be able to. Also, other undocumented parents that had their
babies during the time of the bill was past are unqualified for the Dream Act. Many more
undocumented people are going to be left out in the shadow. The image on the left, shows a man
with the red shirt in on the other side of the U.S border pushing a dreamer over the U.S Border.
The man with the yellow shirt on the U.S side is helping the red shirt guy. This image is trying to
convince people to believe that the dream
act is not only going to help the
undocumented in this nation but also the
one that are going to enter the U.S
because of bill. Many people are going to
believe this types of propaganda because
they are misinformed of the bill. This
would currently help 65,000
undocumented high school students to
be able to get a higher education
(Palacios 2). Only this student that have been in the U.S over five years will be able to apply to
the dream act. This will be a great opportunity to allow undocumented student get a higher

education because most of them have been in the U.S since they were very little. The Dream Act
will give undocumented students a clear road for a higher education.
The Students in the Dream Act have a longer progress to be become a U.S citizens. Not
only do they have to Finish their education, they have to apply for other citizens application. Ron
Haskins mentions youth would have up to six years to apply to upgrade their status to legal
permanent resident (5). The undocumented students that are under the Dream Act dont
automatically become a U.S Citizens. This creates a longer process for them because not only do
they need to wait to finish College degree or server in the military. They have to make sure that
they follow the requirements of the Legal Permanent Resident (LPR). They have to make sure
that they have good a conduct in order to apply for any type of citizenship. I cant believe that
my family members still worry that at the end of the dream act process they still cant become
citizens. The Dream act will only let them stay to finish their education during college. This can
still be a great opportunity for the Dreamer because they qualify for the Dream Act also for the
LPR. The dream act would work better if they wouldnt have to apply to the LPR. They have
been here since at a young age by their parents. Majority of the Dreamers were able to assimilate
to the American culture. The Dream Act is a fair law for the dreamers because it allows them to
say in a country that they know about. Although its a long process it would be great for
undocumented students in the United States.
The Dream Act does not only help the dreamers but also the American Economy. This
can be an investment towers the future of the American economy Dream Act would reduce the
deficit by 2.2 billion over the next ten years (Filz 246). Not only are they going to be able to get
an education but be part of the economy. When the dreamer enters public school the Americans

tax payer pay for their K through 12 education. Under the dream act they would have the
opportunity to contribute back in many different ways. When Undocumented students get the
Dream Act they are able to work anywhere not just in school. When the dreamers work they
have to pay taxes like any other citizens. Those taxes goes back to public schools and other
public goods. Majority of the dreamers are from low income community so they are able to
qualify for financial aid. In the financial aid they are going to need to take loans out with a high
interest that they have to pay back to the government or the school. This would better the
colleges and the government can help other students inter college. Also, many times their parents
get governmental help like welfare and medical. If we allow them to get an high education they
would have no need to continue with the government help. This creates the taxpayers to give less
money to be able to cover the undocumented students and their parents. Over time, as Fitz
mentions The Dream Act would help the national debt because less money the government is
going to spending. Also, the Dreamers would spend more making the money flow in the
economy because the more education, the more money that they dreamers are able to spend.
Including help their parents creating the less depended to government. Overall the more they are
able to contribute to the economy it would lower the deficit.
The Dream Act would only benefit the students and not any family members. Many of
their family members still fear of deportation. Marshall Fitz says if their parents or siblings
were in the United States unlawfully they would be required to leave the United States for 10
years (750).The reason that they need to leave for 10 year the dreamer parents feel its better not
to become citizens. Many time the government requires the dreamers parents to leave the U.S
missing out on important stuff. Americans should try to continue to expand immigration reform

Soltero5
to the dreamer family because the two million dreamers in total have parents that are
undocumented in the U.S., and it isnt fair for the dreamers to get separate from their family.
Also, it is unfair that they have to leave the country in order to be citizens. I have a father that
was undocumented when I was little, and I wouldnt wish to be a young kid without a father for
ten years. Many time I hear stories in the news that children are left without parents in the United
State for the reason that they have to leave the country. American Government should allow the
dreamers to stay with their parents even though they enter illegally. They should be
consequences but it shouldnt be the option of getting deported or being put in prison. Allowing
them to pay a fine or even pay more taxes for a certain time is okay. Another thing to think about
is that the dreamer parents saw the importance of coming to United States. They saw that there
kid have far chance of getting a good education. We should value their hard work and there
willingness to work hard in the United States. Americans should welcome undocumented
immigrants because this nation is made of immigrants.
In conclusion, the Dreamers should have a future in America, to get a higher education
like anyone else. The most important the dreamers are able to experience the American dream
like any other classmate or neighbor. Also, it would help the American economy if everyone puts
their fair share of taxes no matter their background. Dreamers should have the same right as any
other citizen to be able to get a good paying job and a student loan. The most important the
dreamers should be able to stay with their parents. The dreamer was brought to the U.S for the
reason of a better a future. Once again, this nation is made out of immigrants and we should help
them live the American Dream like everyone else.
