I. TeachingReflection:
Mymostsuccessfulareaofteachingintigerpridewasthethesoccerunit.Ithink
thispartlybecausemostofthestudentsenjoyedplayingsoccerandpositivetothatisthe
natureofthesportrequiresalotofmovement.Ivebecomeabetterteacherthroughthis
programbecauseithasgivenmeanoutlookofwhatitslikestoactuallybeateacherand
havealmostfullcontroloveraclass.Italsogavemetheexperiencewithworkingwith
youngkids.ItgavemetheabilitytocreatelessonsaroundactivitiesthatIwasnot
familiarwithlikesoccer.IthinkthatIhavetogrowwithbeingmoreactiveinmanaging
andproblemsolvingstudentmisbehavior,listeningtostudentconcerns,providing
feedback.encouragingstudentstodotheirbest,andkeepingthelessonplanssuitableand
appropriatetostudentsages.

PlanningCommentary:

Thecentralfocusofmyphysicalactivityprogramwastoprovidetheseyoung
studentwiththefundamentsofavarietyofdifferentskillsthatwouldhelpthem
throughouttheirtimeinbecomingaphysicallyliteratestudent.Itsimportanttoaddress
thelearningcontentatanearlyagesothatthesestudentswillknowwhatisexpectedof
theminthenextgradelevel.Astoanyeducation,thelearningisscaffoldedandaddedon
thefurtherastudentprogresses.ThetheoreticalframeworkthatIbasemostofmylessons
offofistheSelfefficacyTheoryandtheZoneofProximaldevelopment.Iwantmy
studentstofeelcomfortableandconfidentintheclassroomenvironment.Idothisby
usingstudentdemonstrationtoboostotherstudentsconfidenceandconstantlygiving
positivewordsofencourageandpraisingstudentswhentheysucceed.TheZoneof
Proximaldevelopmenthelpsmecreatelessonplansthatareappropriateforthehigher
andlowerlevelskilledstudentsintheclass.Thereshouldalwaysbeamodificationto
makeaskilleasierandtoalsomakeitharder.TheZPDhelpsputthestudentinthe
correctzoneforsuccess.

1. Assessment:
Ithinkthatitisimportancetotaketimetofocusonthestudentstofindamedian
baselineassessment.Ifmajorityoftheclasscannotperformacertainskillorisconstantly
havingflawsinthereperformance,itshouldbeaddressedassoonaspossible.Ifound
thatthisisagoodstrategytogaintheattentionancorrectcommonmistakes.Thiswould
avoidthestudentscementingthewronginformationintheirheadandcorrectthe
mistakestheyaremaking.Directinstructionfromaninstructorisalwayseasy,butto

reallyhelpthestudentsunderstandIwouldrecommendtochooseastudentwhocan
demonstrateandperformtheskillinfrontoftheclass.IthinkItwouldbeevenbetterif
thewholeclassrecitesCOTSbeforephysicallypracticingtheskill.Therealsoshouldnot
beoneleveloflearning,butmultiplebecauseeverystudentisdifferentandsomemaybe
highorlowskill,andsomemaylearnfasterandothersslower,everyoneisdifferent.

1. RecommendationsfornextTigerPRIDEparticipants:
Whenteachingyoungstudentsespecially2ndgraders,findsomethingthatthey
liketoplayandbreakdownthefundamentals.Iwouldalsotrytoteachthatunitfirstto
getafeelforthestudentsmanagementandhowinstructionwouldgoforthem.Forme
theystudentsenjoyedsoccerthemostandthelessonsflowedmoreeasilywithsomething
theylikedtodo.Iwouldalsochoosetwootheractivitiesthattheydidn'tlikethatwould
challengeandbroadertheirhorizon.Ichoseultimatefrisbeeandcapturetheflagwhich
mighthavebeentoocomplex.Capturetheflagwasonlyplayedoncethroughajointclass
unit,butitcouldbesimplifiedforincreaseinstruction.
