Dear Dr. Denton:
Angels of Assisi, a no-kill animal shelter in Roanoke, is seeking assistance in launching a public
relations campaign targeted towards the Blacksburg community. As the Head of Virginia Techs
Department of Communication, we understand that you have the ability to arrange a meeting
with public relations faculty and implement a plan that would give your students real world
experience. We believe that this campaign would provide your students a great project, as well as
contribute to our efforts to find homes for homeless animals in the New River Valley.
Blacksburg is a very animal friendly community, thanks in part to the reputation of the VirginiaMaryland College of Veterinary Medicine and Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Life
Sciences. We believe that many families, as well as college students, would be willing to open
their homes to animals in need either through adoption or foster care. The problem is that many
people who live in Blacksburg have never heard of our shelter. Angels of Assisi would be thrilled
to have the help of the Department of Communication in spreading the word about our work and
what people can do to get involved. We would like to utilize social media platforms and press
releases to local news outlets in this public relations campaign.
Angels of Assisi is a non-profit organization and relies on donations and volunteers. It is fully
committed to putting animals into homes and out of shelters and pounds. On behalf of all the
animals at Angels of Assisi, I thank you for your time and look forward to speaking to you in
more depth about the Department of Communications role in this campaign.
Best Regards,
Nicole Orosa
Angels of Assisi Representative
