chemistry classroom. It was a pivotal connection! Alyssa is a teacher who thinks about how
chemistry and science in general can play important roles in everyday life. She strives daily to
instill a love for science, and encourages students to consider careers and college in the fields of
science post high school. Her methods of engagement and classroom management revealed a
“firm but fair” approach to teaching, all the while supporting inquiry-based learning and critical
thinking.
‘At St. Louis School, she is a committed member of the learning community and contributing
‘member to faculty meetings, and works with her cooperating teacher and other resource
teachers/aides to further refine and develop her repertoire for teaching. Alyssa has shown
‘maturity and professionalism when receiving feedback from her mentor teacher, other faculty
and staff, and administration. She is respectful of students and adults at the school, interacting
with all parties with a positive attitude and open mindedness.
In the high school science classroom, Alyssa utilizes multiple teaching strategies, including
technology, to engage her students with informative PowerPoint presentations, relevant
assignments, and rigorous discussions. Alyssa’s science lessons and units of study are naturally
integrative, including writing, analysis, and critical thinking. Moreover, she is reflective as a
practitioner, formatively assessing students to check for understanding of key concepts and for
skills proficiency, to then adapt and/or change lessons as needed. Alyssa never rushes through
Iessons and ensures that ample time is allotted for all tasks and projects while meeting student
learning outcomes.
It is with utmost confidence and respect that I recommend Alyssa Jackson for secondary teaching
licensure in the subject area of science, as I know that she will continue to make positive
contributions to the classroom. Alyssa is an agent of change and will certainly inspire our youth
«with an inquiry-based approach to leaning, uncovering concepts and big ideas, and making
connections of science with their everyday lives. If you need any clarifications with respect to
‘Alyssa’s abilities and dispositions, then feel free to contact me at 808-457-9116 or by e-mail at
