strong connection with one another. In regards to literacy, the staff is knowledgeable about a students strengths and weaknesses. (Ecological Theory Bronfenbrenner) Staffs incorporate a variety of different activities in the classroom. Therefore, students are not stuck reading a book or writing everyday. Instead, they may write one day and then participate in a literacy game the next. Therefore, students participate in activities that target their strengths while improving their weaknesses. (Expectancy Value Model Eccles) Staff enforces a safe environment for students. Staff constantly has the schools Three Rs Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn rules posted in classroom and will ask students to refer to this on a daily basis. (Safe and Supportive Environment/Sense of Belonging) (Simpkins, Delgado, Prince, Quach & Starbuck, 2012) The afterschool program is located at a school-site. Weaknesses
Staffs are assigned 15
students each and must share a room with 2 other groups of 15. Therefore, noise control and distraction can make it difficult to get through lessons. (Huang & Dietel, 2011) There is a lack of communication between the day school teachers and afterschool program leaders. (Ecological Theory Bronfenbrenner) Students can get through activities pretty quickly. Because of this, staff members may be unprepared with another activity or lesson to teach. This leaves students with nothing to do. (Expectancy Value Model Eccles) (Conceptual Model)

Opportunities
School sites are open to
providing more space so that groups can be split apart to control noise and minimize distractions. (Huang & Dietel, 2011) Afterschool programs director is looking to hire more qualified, bilingual staff members to help with ELL students to ensure that they are benefitting from what the program has to offer. . (Huang & Dietel, 2011) Afterschool programs director is open to offering more training opportunities that help staff members learn new strategies and activities, while having staff share strategies or ideas that have worked for them and their students. (Huang & Dietel, 2011)
Threats
Lack of funding means that
we may have to cut down the amount of students that can participate in our specific program because of limited resources. (Huang & Dietel, 2011) Because it is the programs first year at some school sites, if the teachers and principal find that it is not successful then it may be discontinued. . (Huang & Dietel, 2011) Student attendance is lacking. Most students miss multiple days a week or stopped showing up after a few weeks. Assumptions have been made that it may be due to parental support. (Simpkins, Delgado, Prince, Quach & Starbuck, 2012)
