The issue of abortion has been one that has been at a very high level of
controversy and argument for many years now. It all stemmed from many cases,
leading up to a decisive supreme court ruling in Roe vs Wade. Abortion being legalized
has led to millions of innocent and capable human beings not having a choice in if he or
she could live their life. We must put an end to this immoral act that is viewed as
perfectly moral and acceptable to perform.
1 million abortions annually in the United States (World Health Organization). To
take that a step further, there are 40-50 million abortions per year worldwide. That is a
tremendous amount of humans being killed every single year! It is unacceptable that
this is occurring. I truly believe that if all of these babies were born every year, the earth
would be so much more innovative and advanced. One of those humans that denied the
right to live could have been the one person to cure cancer.
It is very necessary to take a look at the how a baby is a human within the fetus
to support why abortion is wrong. Aborted babies are in fact alive. We know that life
begins at conception from scientific facts. ...There is only a difference in degree of
maturation, not in kind, between any of the stages from embryo, to fetus, infant and so
on. We must first walk through the process of a baby in the fetus to understand when
conception occurs. It happens at the very moment the sperm cell unites with an oocyte.
Once this takes place, the cells are combined to make one unique organism called a

zygote. After the zygote stage, the embryo has all of the tools necessary to develop
itself into a mature human being. The embryo has the same nature of any other human
being; it is just at a developmental stage in maturing (Santo & Dean, 2004).
You may ask, how do we combat abortion? Well, there are several ways that
we can fight this moral issue. We as a society can stand up together to realize abortion
is wrong by making it illegal. A big step in the process of making that happen is
defunding Planned Parenthood, which is an organization that performs abortions for
women. They have also been known for selling aborted baby parts for stem cell
research, which is an illegal accusation (Colliver).
An argument may be made that there are some mothers that will not want their
babies, and will just end up neglecting or even killing them. This is another situation that
we as a society must step up and adopt unwanted children.
Abortion removes a child from the family of its own mother. However, there are
also other options to have another family raise ones child through adoption. It is much
cheaper to choose adoption over abortion. It can cost a woman approximately $1,500 to
receive an abortion, and there is often no charge to put ones child up for adoption.
Adoption also gives the mother more choices for her child. Rather than simply killing the
child, she can choose the family to which he/she goes to. It also gives her more time to
make a decision as to whether she is keeping her child or not. During her pregnancy, a
woman has time to pick out a family and make a valuable decision on whether or not it
is right to keep the baby or not. Otherwise, a woman is likely to be rushed to make a
quick decision at the time of the abortion (Kemp).

You can also donate to several non-profit organizations such as Save the Storks.
This is a phenomenal business that sets up vans outside Planned Parenthood building.
These vans offer a free ultrasound for any pregnant woman. This often persuades the
mother to not follow through with the abortion after seeing her very own child on the
monitor (Graber).
I believe that adopting unwanted babies, and convincing mothers to keep their
children are very positive ways to combat and eventually end abortion. The more
women we talk into either keeping their babies or putting them up for adoption, the less
business Planned Parenthood receives, therefore the sooner it is defunded.
This is an issue that I am very passionate about. I feel very strongly that
everyone deserves a chance to pursue their own dreams, and live a life of love and
happiness. I will fight to combat the issue of abortion for as long as I live, because we
must put an end to this immoral act that is viewed as perfectly moral and acceptable to
perform.
